55 WHEREAS, The life of a dedicated public servant drew to a
66 close with the passing of Galveston County Commissioner Kenneth
77 David Clark of Algoa on May 8, 2022, at the age of 58; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Ken Clark was
99 born to Dennis and Darlene Clark on May 21, 1963, and he grew up
1010 with the companionship of three brothers, Kevin, Mike, and Mark;
1111 after graduating from Random Lake High School, he earned an
1212 associate's degree in applied science from San Jacinto College;
1313 he went on to establish a desktop publishing and advertising
1414 company; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Clark served as a member of the board of
1616 Municipal Utility District No. 6, and he worked as an aide to
1717 former U.S. Representative Steve Stockman before joining the
1818 State Republican Executive Committee; in 1998, he was elected to
1919 the Galveston County Commissioners Court, and he ably
2020 represented Precinct 4 for nearly two and a half decades; he was a
2121 tireless advocate for improving infrastructure and lowering
2222 taxes, and under his guidance, the county received a AAA bond
2323 rating; widely respected by his peers, he was also a caring
2424 mentor to other public officials; and
2525 WHEREAS, In addition to his work as county commissioner,
2626 Mr. Clark served on the Houston-Galveston Area Council board of
2727 directors for more than a decade, most recently as chair of the
2828 Transportation Policy Council; he further distinguished himself
2929 as a longtime member of the Texas Conference of Urban Counties
3030 Policy Committee and the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
3131 Political Protocol Committee, and he was active in the National
3232 Rifle Association; and
3333 WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Clark
3434 benefited from the love and support of his wife, Sherry, with
3535 whom he shared a fulfilling marriage that spanned 34 years; he
3636 took great pride in their seven children, Sarah, Charity, Israel,
3737 Hannah, Samuel, Rebekah, and Faith, and four grandchildren,
3838 Joseph, Alexis, Gunnar, and Paisley; during his leisure hours, he
3939 enjoyed traveling with his family, cheering on the Houston Astros
4040 and Green Bay Packers, and watching Ultimate Fighting
4141 Championship bouts; moreover, he raised horses and livestock,
4242 and he was involved with The Longhorn Project, 4-H, and the
4343 Galveston County Fair & Rodeo; an avid horticulturalist, he was
4444 also a member of the Galveston County Master Gardener
4545 Association; and
4646 WHEREAS, Ken Clark made a lasting, positive difference in
4747 his community through his many civic and professional
4848 contributions, and he will forever be remembered with great
4949 admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
5050 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
5151 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Kenneth David
5252 Clark and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his
5353 passing; and, be it further
5454 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5555 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5656 this day, it do so in memory of Ken Clark.
