| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Shelly Smith has been selected to join Leadership |

| 7 | 7 | | Longview as a member of the Class of 2023; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Presented by Conterra Networks, Leadership Longview |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | is a nine-month program that provides participants with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | opportunity to meet with local leaders to better understand their |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | community; the issues covered in the program include education, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | community and economic development, health and emergency services, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | quality of life, criminal justice, and leadership development; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, For more than two and a half decades, Mrs. Smith has |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | distinguished herself as an advocate for children and families in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | East Texas; she currently serves as the director of administration |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and operations at Buckner Children and Family Services in Longview |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and Lufkin; previously, she was the executive director of East |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Texas Child Advocates and worked in multiple supervisory roles at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the Gregg County Juvenile Probation Department; active in her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community, she is the president of the White Oak Education |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Foundation and a member of Zonta Club of Longview; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith holds a bachelor's degree from the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | University of North Texas and a master's degree from The University |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Texas at Tyler; in all she does, she benefits from the love and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | support of her family, which includes her husband and their three |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | sons; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Shelly Smith will gain invaluable experience during |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | her time with Leadership Longview, and the dedication and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commitment to her community she has already demonstrated will serve |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her well in this program and in all her future endeavors; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
