11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 528
22 WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Gerardo Gonzalez is
33 retiring from the United States Army on March 1, 2024, concluding
44 a distinguished military career that has spanned more than three
55 decades; and
66 WHEREAS, Gerardo Gonzalez currently serves as the garrison
77 command sergeant major at Fort Bliss in El Paso; over the course
88 of his enlistment, he has deployed on numerous occasions in
99 support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom,
1010 Operation New Dawn, and various contingency operations
1111 worldwide; and
1212 WHEREAS, CSM Gonzalez joined the U.S. Army in 1992;
1313 following his completion of basic training at Fort Sill,
1414 Oklahoma, he was assigned to the 355th Medical Company, Army
1515 Reserve at Fort Bliss; he entered active duty in 1993 and
1616 underwent advanced training as a scout helicopter repairer at
1717 Fort Eustis, Virginia; he went on to graduate from the resident
1818 sergeants major course, the first sergeant course, and the senior
1919 leaders, advance leaders, and primary leadership courses; and
2020 WHEREAS, Selected to serve in the 160th Special Operations
2121 Aviation Regiment, CSM Gonzalez was assigned in 1998 to the
2222 1-160th SOAR (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; there, he
2323 held such leadership roles as crew chief, flight platoon
2424 sergeant, and first sergeant of the Light Attack Helicopter
2525 Company and the Aviation Maintenance Company; and
2626 WHEREAS, After graduating from the U.S. Army Sergeants
2727 Major Academy, CSM Gonzalez was assigned to the 209th Aviation
2828 Support Battalion as support operations sergeant major for the
2929 25th Combat Aviation Brigade; he subsequently served as command
3030 sergeant major of the 2-6 Cavalry Regiment, Hawaii, and as CSM of
3131 the 128th Aviation Brigade at Fort Eustis, before assuming the
3232 post of operations sergeant major for the Noncommissioned
3333 Officer Professional Development Department, Noncommissioned
3434 Officer Leadership Center of Excellence; and
3535 WHEREAS, Gerardo Gonzalez's dedication, professionalism,
3636 and devotion to duty have greatly benefited his fellow Americans
3737 and earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he may
3838 indeed reflect with pride on his exemplary record of military
3939 service; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4141 Legislature, hereby congratulate U.S. Army Command Sergeant
4242 Major Gerardo Gonzalez on his retirement and extend to him
4343 sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors;
4444 and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4646 prepared for Command Sergeant Major Gonzalez as an expression of
4747 high regard from the Texas Senate.
