| 7 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Karia is a renowned orthopedic surgeon at The |

| 8 | 12 | | University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; his |

| 9 | 13 | | focus on continually developing his skill as a surgeon and on |
|---|
| 10 | 14 | | creating a learning environment that fosters independence, |
|---|
| 11 | 15 | | self-confidence, and trust in his students has contributed |
|---|
| 12 | 16 | | greatly to modern medicine and has made a difference in the lives |
|---|
| 13 | 17 | | of countless patients; and |
|---|
| 14 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After receiving a medical degree from The |
|---|
| 15 | 19 | | University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in |
|---|
| 16 | 20 | | 2004, Dr. Karia attended The University of Texas Health Science |
|---|
| 17 | 21 | | Center at San Antonio, where he completed his residency in |
|---|
| 18 | 22 | | orthopedic surgery and continued his training with a fellowship |
|---|
| 19 | 23 | | in orthopedic trauma; Dr. Karia served as the chief |
|---|
| 20 | 24 | | administrative resident from 2008 to 2009 and joined the |
|---|
| 21 | 25 | | department of orthopedics as a faculty member in 2010; and |
|---|
| 22 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The chief residents of The University of Texas |

| 23 | 27 | | Health Science Center at San Antonio orthopedic surgery |

| 24 | 28 | | residential program nominated Dr. Karia to receive the 2023 |
|---|
| 25 | 29 | | Outstanding Faculty Mentor award; an exceptional physician and a |

| 26 | 30 | | passionate educator, Dr. Karia has dedicated himself to the |

| 27 | 31 | | mission of creating a welcoming and inspiring learning |
|---|
| 28 | 32 | | environment and to guiding future generations of orthopedic |
|---|
| 29 | 33 | | surgeons on the path of excellence; and |
|---|
| 30 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired as a surgeon and teacher, |

| 31 | 35 | | Dr. Karia has brought hope and healing to many Texans while |
|---|
| 32 | 36 | | serving as a role model to numerous orthopedic residents; he sets |

| 33 | 37 | | the highest standards for medical education and health care in |
|---|
| 34 | 38 | | the Lone Star State, and he is truly deserving of recognition for |

| 35 | 39 | | his contributions to orthopedic medicine; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 37 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Ravi Karia on receiving the 2023 |
