| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Telena Wright is retiring as superintendent |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | of the Argyle Independent School District on June 30, 2023, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | drawing to a close an outstanding tenure that has spanned more |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | than 15 years; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A native of Ballinger, Dr. Wright began her |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | career in public education as a math teacher in San Angelo ISD, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and she went on to become an elementary and high school |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | counselor; she joined Argyle ISD as principal of Argyle High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School in 2000, and three years later, she accepted a position |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | as the district's assistant superintendent; she was named |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | superintendent in 2009; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright has overseen three successful bond |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | programs that have included the addition of new campuses as well |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | as renovations and other improvements to existing campuses; she |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | also played an instrumental role in establishing the Argyle ISD |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Police Department and special education department; since her |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | appointment as supervisor, district enrollment has increased |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | from 1,700 to some 5,000 students, and she has guided a team to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | develop a 10-year growth plan for the district; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Under Dr. Wright's able leadership, Argyle ISD has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | received a number of honors, including an A accountability rating |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | from the Texas Education Agency and a district score of 97, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | highest in the district's history; in addition, Argyle High has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | achieved statewide success in University Interscholastic League |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | competitions, earning 12 Lone Star Cup awards; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright holds a doctorate in education from |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the University of North Texas, a master's degree in education |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | from Hardin-Simmons University, and a bachelor's degree from The |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | University of Texas at Austin; in addition to her work with |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Argyle ISD, she has served as an adjunct instructor at UNT; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | commitment to excellence, Dr. Telena Wright has helped many young |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | her contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Telena Wright on her |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | retirement as superintendent of the Argyle Independent School |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | District and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 43 | 43 | | prepared for Dr. Wright as an expression of high regard from the |
