2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Captain Wallace R. Hogan of League City retired |

3 | 3 | | from the Galveston-Texas City Pilots in February 2023, following |

4 | 4 | | more than 21 years of outstanding service; and |

5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Playing an important role in the region, members |
---|
6 | 6 | | of the Galveston-Texas City Pilots safely guide vessels to their |
---|
7 | 7 | | berths or out to sea; they maneuver them through the busiest |
---|
8 | 8 | | waterway intersection in the country, where the Galveston, Texas |
---|
9 | 9 | | City, and Houston ship channels all cross with the Intracoastal |
---|
10 | 10 | | Waterway; while protecting lives, property, the environment, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | economic interests in Galveston County, these pilots face |
---|
12 | 12 | | serious risks, as they must navigate their own boats next to |
---|
13 | 13 | | moving ships and climb aboard by ladder; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Wally Hogan graduated from Dickinson High School |
---|
15 | 15 | | and embarked on a career as a harbor pilot, commissioned by the |
---|
16 | 16 | | governor of the State of Texas; in 2001, he became a branch pilot |
---|
17 | 17 | | for the Galveston-Texas City Pilots; throughout his career, he |
---|
18 | 18 | | demonstrated exceptional skill and expertise, and he benefited |
---|
19 | 19 | | his colleagues as presiding officer of the pilots' association; |
---|
20 | 20 | | and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Captain Hogan is now a |
---|
22 | 22 | | proud grandfather; his retirement will allow him more time to |
---|
23 | 23 | | spend with his loved ones and to perfect his golf swing as well; |

---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Wally Hogan distinguished himself through his |
---|
26 | 26 | | commitment to the important mission of the Galveston-Texas City |

27 | 27 | | Pilots during more than two decades of service, and as he begins |

28 | 28 | | the next exciting chapter of his life, he may indeed reflect with |
---|
29 | 29 | | pride on his contributions; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Captain Wallace R. Hogan on his |
---|
32 | 32 | | retirement from the Galveston-Texas City Pilots and extend to him |

33 | 33 | | sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
