11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 545
22 WHEREAS, Captain Wallace R. Hogan of League City retired
33 from the Galveston-Texas City Pilots in February 2023, following
44 more than 21 years of outstanding service; and
55 WHEREAS, Playing an important role in the region, members
66 of the Galveston-Texas City Pilots safely guide vessels to their
77 berths or out to sea; they maneuver them through the busiest
88 waterway intersection in the country, where the Galveston, Texas
99 City, and Houston ship channels all cross with the Intracoastal
1010 Waterway; while protecting lives, property, the environment, and
1111 economic interests in Galveston County, these pilots face
1212 serious risks, as they must navigate their own boats next to
1313 moving ships and climb aboard by ladder; and
1414 WHEREAS, Wally Hogan graduated from Dickinson High School
1515 and embarked on a career as a harbor pilot, commissioned by the
1616 governor of the State of Texas; in 2001, he became a branch pilot
1717 for the Galveston-Texas City Pilots; throughout his career, he
1818 demonstrated exceptional skill and expertise, and he benefited
1919 his colleagues as presiding officer of the pilots' association;
2020 and
2121 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Captain Hogan is now a
2222 proud grandfather; his retirement will allow him more time to
2323 spend with his loved ones and to perfect his golf swing as well;
2424 and
2525 WHEREAS, Wally Hogan distinguished himself through his
2626 commitment to the important mission of the Galveston-Texas City
2727 Pilots during more than two decades of service, and as he begins
2828 the next exciting chapter of his life, he may indeed reflect with
2929 pride on his contributions; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3131 Legislature, hereby congratulate Captain Wallace R. Hogan on his
3232 retirement from the Galveston-Texas City Pilots and extend to him
3333 sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3535 prepared for Captain Hogan as an expression of high regard from
3636 the Texas Senate.
