55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The Honorable Woodrow W. Gossom Jr. is stepping down
77 as Wichita County judge on December 31, 2022, drawing to a close
88 more than three decades of service to the county; and
99 WHEREAS, After attending Texas A&M University, "Woody"
1010 Gossom completed his bachelor's degree at Midwestern State
1111 University; he earned his master's degree from the University of
1212 Denver and went on to pursue doctoral studies at the University of
1313 North Texas; after leaving active military duty in 1973, he was
1414 employed as associate dean of students at MSU, and he was the
1515 general manager of City Concrete; he concluded his service with the
1616 Texas Army National Guard and the Army Reserve as a colonel in 2005,
1717 and upon his retirement, he received the Legion of Merit; and
1818 WHEREAS, Judge Gossom was appointed as county judge in
1919 January 1999, having previously served as a Wichita County
2020 commissioner; over the course of his 23-year tenure on the bench, he
2121 has ably performed the responsibilities of his position and served
2222 his fellow citizens with distinction; he has enhanced his
2323 effectiveness through his participation in the Texas Association of
2424 Counties leadership program and the association's Texas Judicial
2525 Academy, and he is also a graduate of the 2000 Commissioners Court
2626 Advanced Curriculum program; and
2727 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Judge Gossom has been
2828 involved in numerous civic organizations, including Kiwanis,
2929 American Red Cross, and the Wichita Falls Regional Chamber of
3030 Commerce; he is also a member of First Christian Church of Wichita
3131 Falls; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his
3232 wife, Kris, and their four children, as well as their five
3333 grandchildren; and
3434 WHEREAS, The dedication and integrity demonstrated by Woody
3535 Gossom have greatly benefited the residents of Wichita County and
3636 earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he may
3737 indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as he begins the
3838 next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
4040 hereby congratulate Woodrow W. Gossom Jr. on his retirement as
4141 Wichita County judge and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
4242 future; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for Judge Gossom as an expression of high regard by the
4545 Texas Senate.
