| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Woodrow W. Gossom Jr. is stepping down |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | as Wichita County judge on December 31, 2022, drawing to a close |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | more than three decades of service to the county; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After attending Texas A&M University, "Woody" |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Gossom completed his bachelor's degree at Midwestern State |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | University; he earned his master's degree from the University of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Denver and went on to pursue doctoral studies at the University of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | North Texas; after leaving active military duty in 1973, he was |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | employed as associate dean of students at MSU, and he was the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | general manager of City Concrete; he concluded his service with the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas Army National Guard and the Army Reserve as a colonel in 2005, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and upon his retirement, he received the Legion of Merit; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Judge Gossom was appointed as county judge in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | January 1999, having previously served as a Wichita County |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | commissioner; over the course of his 23-year tenure on the bench, he |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | has ably performed the responsibilities of his position and served |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | his fellow citizens with distinction; he has enhanced his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | effectiveness through his participation in the Texas Association of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Counties leadership program and the association's Texas Judicial |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Academy, and he is also a graduate of the 2000 Commissioners Court |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Advanced Curriculum program; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Judge Gossom has been |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | involved in numerous civic organizations, including Kiwanis, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | American Red Cross, and the Wichita Falls Regional Chamber of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Commerce; he is also a member of First Christian Church of Wichita |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Falls; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | wife, Kris, and their four children, as well as their five |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, The dedication and integrity demonstrated by Woody |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Gossom have greatly benefited the residents of Wichita County and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he may |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as he begins the |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | hereby congratulate Woodrow W. Gossom Jr. on his retirement as |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Wichita County judge and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | future; and, be it further |

| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
