2	2	WHEREAS, The members of the eighth class of Governor
3	3	William P. Clements Jr. Scholars have distinguished themselves
4	4	through their commitment to public service and public policy; and
5	5	WHEREAS, These young men and women are participating in the
6	6	Clements Legislative Study Program, which is hosted by the Texas
7	7	Conservative Coalition Research Institute; this exemplary
8	8	program seeks to train, support, and sustain the next generation
9	9	of leaders and public servants, instilling in them the values and
10	10	work ethic of former governor William P. Clements Jr.; and
11	11	WHEREAS, Governor Clements overcame the misfortunes that
12	12	befell his family during the Great Depression to create the
13	13	world's largest offshore drilling company; he won an upset
14	14	victory to become the state's first Republican governor since
15	15	Reconstruction, bringing his business acumen to state government
16	16	and focusing on such issues as sound budgeting, crime prevention,
17	17	and economic diversification; and
18	18	WHEREAS, The Clements Legislative Study Program is the
19	19	only program of its kind to bring conservative students to Austin
20	20	so that they may gain valuable experience in leadership and
21	21	public service by working directly with members of the Texas
22	22	Legislature; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Scholars who have previously completed the
24	24	Clements Legislative Study Program now work in a variety of
25	25	positions in and around the Texas Legislature, including in the
26	26	Texas House and Senate, state agencies, political campaigns,
27	27	policy research institutions, and media organizations; and
28	28	WHEREAS, The program's eighth class consists of Olivia
29	29	Alexander, Morghan Armenta, Sydney Baker, Cameron Castillo,
30	30	Mika'ele Castro, Mary Grace Davidson, Bailey Halbert, Noah
31	31	Huerta, Jacquelyn Pillow, Zane Prince, Leah Shepherd, Trinity
32	32	Smith, Madeline Tillman, and Romana Vargas; and
33	33	WHEREAS, By taking part in this special program, the
34	34	members of Governor William P. Clements Jr. Scholars are
35	35	furthering their understanding of civics, government, and
36	36	history, and the knowledge and skills they learn from their time
37	37	at the Texas Capitol will serve them well in the years ahead; now,
38	38	therefore, be it
39	39	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
40	40	Legislature, hereby commend the members of the eighth class of
41	41	Governor William P. Clements Jr. Scholars for their dedication
42	42	to public policy and for their service to their state and nation
43	43	and extend to them sincere best wishes for success in all their
44	44	future endeavors; and, be it further
45	45	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
46	46	prepared for the class as an expression of high regard from the
47	47	Texas Senate.
