No. 567 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Las Colinas, a master-planned community in Irving, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023; and WHEREAS, Las Colinas can trace its origins to 1973, when Dallas businessman Ben Carpenter began developing his family ranch, Hackberry Creek Ranch, into a large, mixed-use community; the development started out with around 7,000 acres, eventually expanding to more than 12,000 acres after various land acquisitions; by 1976, the first two corporations had settled in Las Colinas, Allstate Insurance Company and the Associates Corp., and many other companies would soon follow suit during a period of significant growth in the 1980s; and WHEREAS, Today, Las Colinas is a thriving commercial and corporate community with over 27 million square feet of office space; it is home to a multitude of national and international firms, including Citigroup, Wells Fargo, and Caterpillar, and more than 150,000 people work in the community for some 7,500 companies; its business environment benefits from the development's close proximity to downtown Dallas and Fort Worth, as well as its easy access to DFW International Airport, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Orange Line, and a number of major highways; furthermore, the area is home to such educational institutions as Dallas College Northlake Campus and the University of Dallas; and WHEREAS, The community has over 40 residential villages and offers a variety of housing options; residents and visitors alike enjoy a range of amenities and attractions, including museums, globally-inspired restaurants, hotels and resorts, championship golf courses, and the Las Colinas Entertainment District, which encompasses the popular Toyota Music Factory and Water Street; in addition, outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the area for its more than 190 acres of parks and greenbelts, as well as its many lakes, including Lake Carolyn, where activities such as paddleboarding and gondola rides are available; and WHEREAS, Las Colinas has played an important role in the City of Irving for the past five decades, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the community on this special milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Las Colinas and extend to its citizens sincere best wishes for the future.
