| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Las Colinas, a master-planned community in |

| 3 | 3 | | Irving, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023; and |

| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Las Colinas can trace its origins to 1973, when |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Dallas businessman Ben Carpenter began developing his family |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | ranch, Hackberry Creek Ranch, into a large, mixed-use community; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the development started out with around 7,000 acres, eventually |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | expanding to more than 12,000 acres after various land |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | acquisitions; by 1976, the first two corporations had settled in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Las Colinas, Allstate Insurance Company and the Associates |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Corp., and many other companies would soon follow suit during a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | period of significant growth in the 1980s; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, Las Colinas is a thriving commercial and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | corporate community with over 27 million square feet of office |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | space; it is home to a multitude of national and international |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | firms, including Citigroup, Wells Fargo, and Caterpillar, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | more than 150,000 people work in the community for some 7,500 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | companies; its business environment benefits from the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | development's close proximity to downtown Dallas and Fort Worth, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as well as its easy access to DFW International Airport, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Dallas Area Rapid Transit Orange Line, and a number of major |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | highways; furthermore, the area is home to such educational |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | institutions as Dallas College Northlake Campus and the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | University of Dallas; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The community has over 40 residential villages |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and offers a variety of housing options; residents and visitors |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | alike enjoy a range of amenities and attractions, including |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | museums, globally-inspired restaurants, hotels and resorts, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | championship golf courses, and the Las Colinas Entertainment |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | District, which encompasses the popular Toyota Music Factory and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Water Street; in addition, outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | area for its more than 190 acres of parks and greenbelts, as well |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | as its many lakes, including Lake Carolyn, where activities such |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | as paddleboarding and gondola rides are available; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Las Colinas has played an important role in the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | City of Irving for the past five decades, and it is indeed a |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | pleasure to recognize the community on this special milestone in |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Las |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Colinas and extend to its citizens sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | future. |
