11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 571
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Jeane Block Spencer on her distinguished career as an
44 educator; and
55 WHEREAS, Naturally drawn to the field of education, Jeane
66 was gifted and driven as a student, and she graduated first in her
77 class from Pickard High School and was the first African American
88 student to be accepted into Blinn College's academic program; she
99 continued her education at The University of Texas, where she
1010 earned a bachelor's degree in English and soon after, she began
1111 her long and fulfilling career as a teacher; and
1212 WHEREAS, Jeane worked as a fifth-grade teacher with the
1313 Aldine School District in Houston, where she received valuable
1414 guidance and mentorship from the district's dedicated educators;
1515 while living in Houston, she continued her education at the
1616 University of Houston, and she married Dennis A. Spencer Sr., her
1717 beloved late husband; and
1818 WHEREAS, After relocating to New Mexico, Jeane taught with
1919 Las Cruces Public Schools, and she and her husband were blessed
2020 with two sons, Dennis and William; she continued her career as an
2121 educator in New Mexico for 18 years, including serving as a
2222 special-education teacher for more than a decade; her empathetic
2323 and creative approach to teaching helped her students to flourish
2424 in their environment; and
2525 WHEREAS, A woman of strong spiritual faith, Jeane has been
2626 a longtime member of the congregation of Bethel Second Baptist
2727 Church, where she has served as a Sunday school teacher,
2828 deaconess, and as the Christian education vice chair; she has
2929 contributed numerous written articles to The Mission, a study
3030 guide for the women of the National Baptist Convention, USA; and
3131 WHEREAS, A highly respected alumna of Blinn College and The
3232 University of Texas, Jeane has reflected the highest ideals of
3333 teaching throughout her career, and her dedication as an educator
3434 has made a positive and lasting difference in the lives of
3535 countless students; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3737 Legislature, hereby commend Jeane Block Spencer on her exemplary
3838 career and on her many contributions to excellence in education;
3939 and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
