2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Jeane Block Spencer on her distinguished career as an |

4 | 4 | | educator; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Naturally drawn to the field of education, Jeane |
---|
6 | 6 | | was gifted and driven as a student, and she graduated first in her |
---|
7 | 7 | | class from Pickard High School and was the first African American |
---|
8 | 8 | | student to be accepted into Blinn College's academic program; she |
---|
9 | 9 | | continued her education at The University of Texas, where she |
---|
10 | 10 | | earned a bachelor's degree in English and soon after, she began |
---|
11 | 11 | | her long and fulfilling career as a teacher; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Jeane worked as a fifth-grade teacher with the |
---|
13 | 13 | | Aldine School District in Houston, where she received valuable |
---|
14 | 14 | | guidance and mentorship from the district's dedicated educators; |
---|
15 | 15 | | while living in Houston, she continued her education at the |
---|
16 | 16 | | University of Houston, and she married Dennis A. Spencer Sr., her |
---|
17 | 17 | | beloved late husband; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After relocating to New Mexico, Jeane taught with |
---|
19 | 19 | | Las Cruces Public Schools, and she and her husband were blessed |
---|
20 | 20 | | with two sons, Dennis and William; she continued her career as an |
---|
21 | 21 | | educator in New Mexico for 18 years, including serving as a |
---|
22 | 22 | | special-education teacher for more than a decade; her empathetic |
---|
23 | 23 | | and creative approach to teaching helped her students to flourish |
---|
24 | 24 | | in their environment; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A woman of strong spiritual faith, Jeane has been |
---|
26 | 26 | | a longtime member of the congregation of Bethel Second Baptist |
---|
27 | 27 | | Church, where she has served as a Sunday school teacher, |
---|
28 | 28 | | deaconess, and as the Christian education vice chair; she has |
---|
29 | 29 | | contributed numerous written articles to The Mission, a study |
---|
30 | 30 | | guide for the women of the National Baptist Convention, USA; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected alumna of Blinn College and The |
---|
32 | 32 | | University of Texas, Jeane has reflected the highest ideals of |
---|
33 | 33 | | teaching throughout her career, and her dedication as an educator |
---|
34 | 34 | | has made a positive and lasting difference in the lives of |
---|
35 | 35 | | countless students; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby commend Jeane Block Spencer on her exemplary |
---|
38 | 38 | | career and on her many contributions to excellence in education; |
---|

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
