| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Karen McCormick Zachary, who is retiring after a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | distinguished 37-year career with the Dallas Independent School |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | District; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, Karen received her |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching from |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Prairie View A&M University in 1984; she was hired as an |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | elementary school teacher at L.P. Cowart Elementary School in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1986, marking the beginning of her long and impressive career |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | with the Dallas Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Karen has devoted her energy to the education of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | children for almost four decades; she began her career as an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | elementary school counselor at Birdie Alexander Elementary School |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and Umphrey Lee Elementary School after earning a master's degree |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in counseling education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1992; her commitment to supporting and guiding young students |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | toward achieving their full potential has been a positive influence |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | on the lives of countless individuals; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated and resourceful counselor, Karen has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | greatly assisted her students and fellow educators with state |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | testing preparation, child advocacy resourcing, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | extracurricular activities such as Destination Imagination and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | track and basketball programs; she was recognized as the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Outstanding Elementary School Counselor of the Southwest |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Community in 2009 and as the Dallas Independent School District |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Counselor of the Year in 2022; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Karen's stewardship and generosity extends |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | outside of the school district, and she is an active member of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville and the Alpha Kappa |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Alpha Sorority, where she has served in many leadership roles; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | she has been an outstanding and trusted mentor, educator, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | advisor to all of her students, and she can reflect with pride on |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | her distinguished service in the Dallas Independent School |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | District; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby commend Karen McCormick Zachary on her |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | exceptional career and her many contributions to public |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | education and to the Dallas community and extend to her best |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
