2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Norma Duran has been named governor of the Texas |

3 | 3 | | Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Artists; and |

4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, A noted public relations and communications |

5 | 5 | | professional, Ms. Duran has demonstrated exceptional skill in |
---|
6 | 6 | | artist development, cultural innovation, and community |
---|
7 | 7 | | involvement; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Duran was born and educated in Monterrey, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Mexico; she began her career as a journalist, working for various |
---|
10 | 10 | | newspapers and founding a magazine, Diferencias; after settling |
---|
11 | 11 | | in San Antonio, she made her mark as a radio host and publicist, |
---|
12 | 12 | | as well as by serving as a promoter for AFG Sigma Records and such |
---|
13 | 13 | | international music acts as Los Temerarios; during a decade-long |
---|
14 | 14 | | affiliation with Freddie Records, she represented some of the |
---|
15 | 15 | | biggest names in regional Mexican and Tejano music and gained |
---|
16 | 16 | | further recognition for her expertise in artist branding and |
---|
17 | 17 | | international publicity; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1997, Ms. Duran established Xima Productions, |
---|
19 | 19 | | offering consulting and PR services to numerous Grammy-winning |
---|
20 | 20 | | artists in both the United States and Latin America; moreover, |
---|
21 | 21 | | she launched one of the first reggaeton stations in Arizona in |
---|
22 | 22 | | 2005, helping the genre reach a larger audience; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Duran is active in both the National and Latin |
---|
24 | 24 | | Academies of Recording Arts and Sciences; as a district advocate, |
---|
25 | 25 | | she has been a stalwart champion of music creators, and she has |
---|
26 | 26 | | mentored college students through the Grammy U program; over the |
---|
27 | 27 | | years, she has been honored for her work on two Latin |
---|
28 | 28 | | Grammy-winning projects, as well as for her support of St. Jude's |
---|
29 | 29 | | Children's Hospital; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Widely admired for her contributions to the music |
---|
31 | 31 | | industry, Norma Duran has given generously of her time and |
---|
32 | 32 | | talents in behalf of the National Academy of Recording Artists, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and this exciting new role will provide opportunities for her to |
---|
34 | 34 | | make an even greater impact; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Norma Duran on being named |
---|
37 | 37 | | governor of the Texas Chapter of the National Academy of |
---|
38 | 38 | | Recording Artists and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
