| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of Carl Roderick Osborne, who passed away on October 10, 2022, at |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the age of 86; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The son of Tim and Christine Osborne, Roddy Osborne |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | was born in Terrell on December 6, 1935, and grew up in Gainesville; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | he attended Texas A&M University on a football scholarship, leading |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Aggies to the 1956 Southwest Conference championship and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | earning All-SWC honors that season; in 1958, he was selected by the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Cleveland Browns in the National Football League Draft, and he was |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | later inducted into the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Osborne served for several years in the U.S. Air |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Force, rising to the rank of captain before his honorable |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | discharge; he subsequently coached football at Abilene Christian |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | University and Harding University in Arkansas, where he received a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | master's degree in psychology; he also studied child psychology as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a Ph.D. student at Florida State University; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Returning to Gainesville in the 1970s, Mr. Osborne |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | joined his father in the family's residential and commercial real |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | estate business; in 1980, he traveled with Federal Housing |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Administration representatives to the Middle East to meet with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Egyptian president Anwar Sadat and other government officials about |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the development of low-cost housing; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Osborne enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and support of his wife of 25 years, the former Janis Land; he took |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | great pride in his 3 children, Kerry, Kevin, and Kathy, and his 11 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, A humble man of faith, Roddy Osborne will be deeply |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | missed, and those who held him dear will forever remember the warmth |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and kindness he brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

| 37 | 37 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Carl Roderick Osborne and extend |

| 38 | 38 | | heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Janis |
