66 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
77 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
88 of Carl Roderick Osborne, who passed away on October 10, 2022, at
99 the age of 86; and
1010 WHEREAS, The son of Tim and Christine Osborne, Roddy Osborne
1111 was born in Terrell on December 6, 1935, and grew up in Gainesville;
1212 he attended Texas A&M University on a football scholarship, leading
1313 the Aggies to the 1956 Southwest Conference championship and
1414 earning All-SWC honors that season; in 1958, he was selected by the
1515 Cleveland Browns in the National Football League Draft, and he was
1616 later inducted into the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Osborne served for several years in the U.S. Air
1818 Force, rising to the rank of captain before his honorable
1919 discharge; he subsequently coached football at Abilene Christian
2020 University and Harding University in Arkansas, where he received a
2121 master's degree in psychology; he also studied child psychology as
2222 a Ph.D. student at Florida State University; and
2323 WHEREAS, Returning to Gainesville in the 1970s, Mr. Osborne
2424 joined his father in the family's residential and commercial real
2525 estate business; in 1980, he traveled with Federal Housing
2626 Administration representatives to the Middle East to meet with
2727 Egyptian president Anwar Sadat and other government officials about
2828 the development of low-cost housing; and
2929 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Osborne enjoyed the love
3030 and support of his wife of 25 years, the former Janis Land; he took
3131 great pride in his 3 children, Kerry, Kevin, and Kathy, and his 11
3232 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and
3333 WHEREAS, A humble man of faith, Roddy Osborne will be deeply
3434 missed, and those who held him dear will forever remember the warmth
3535 and kindness he brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3737 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Carl Roderick Osborne and extend
3838 heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Janis
3939 Osborne; to his children, Kerry Osborne and his wife, Veronica,
4040 Kevin Osborne and his wife, Stacy, and Kathy Hiser and her husband,
4141 Tim; to his sister, Karen Otts; to the mother of his children, Mary
4242 Lou Leftwich; to his grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob, Lindsey, Noah,
4343 Chandler, Logan, Madison, Will, Jesse, Cole, and Clay; to his
4444 great-grandchildren, Griffin, Olivia, Liam, Brayden, Grace, and
4545 Emma; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it
4646 further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4949 day, it do so in memory of Roddy Osborne.
