55 WHEREAS, Words cannot fully express the heartache felt by
66 the family and friends of Layla Marie Salazar of Uvalde, who
77 passed away on May 24, 2022, at the age of 11; and
88 WHEREAS, Layla Salazar was born in Elgin, Illinois, on
99 September 19, 2010, to Vincent Salazar III and Melinda Alejandro;
1010 she enjoyed the companionship of two brothers, Julian and
1111 Nicholas, and she was further cherished by her grandparents and
1212 great-grandparents as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and
1313 cousins; and
1414 WHEREAS, Layla was a high-spirited young girl who took
1515 advantage of any opportunity to sing and dance; though energetic
1616 and sometimes rambunctious, she was also respectful of her
1717 elders, and she was the first to greet relatives, friends, and
1818 guests who visited the family's home; her competitive nature
1919 shined in many different activities such as swimming and running,
2020 and she beamed with pride when she took home six first-place
2121 ribbons from her school's field day; and
2222 WHEREAS, Although the passing of Layla Salazar is an
2323 incalculable loss to all those who held her dear, they may find
2424 comfort in knowing that their lives have been forever enriched by
2525 the love, laughter, and kindness she shared with them; now,
2626 therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
2828 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Layla Marie
2929 Salazar and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her
3030 family: to her parents, Vincent Salazar III and Melinda Alejandro;
3131 to her brothers, Julian and Nicholas Salazar; to her grandparents,
3232 Lisa and Roberto Alejandro and Vincent and Alma Salazar; to her
3333 great-grandparents, Mary and Joe Deleon, Romualda Alejandro,
3434 Consuelo Salazar, and Alicia Alejandro; to her aunts, uncles,
3535 cousins, and friends; and to the countless others in Uvalde and
3636 beyond who mourn her passing; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3838 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3939 this day, it do so in memory of Layla Marie Salazar.
