5	5	WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Maranda Gail Mathis of
6	6	Uvalde on May 24, 2022, at the age of 11, brought an unimaginable
7	7	loss to the many people who loved and cherished her; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Maranda Mathis was born in Gainesville, Florida,
9	9	on May 6, 2011, to Deanna Gornto and Brian Mathis Jr.; she grew up
10	10	with the companionship of a brother, Bruce, and she was further
11	11	blessed with the affectionate support of her grandfather and
12	12	great-grandmother and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Shy and sweet, Maranda enjoyed spending time
14	14	outdoors, where her pursuits included collecting rocks, shells,
15	15	and feathers; she had a kind heart, an engaging smile, and a vivid
16	16	imagination, and she often expressed her love for unicorns and
17	17	mermaids, particularly those that were her favorite colors,
18	18	purple and pink; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Although her time on this earth was far too brief,
20	20	Maranda Gail Mathis was a ray of light in the lives of those who
21	21	held her dear, and they will never forget the abundant happiness
22	22	that she brought to them; now, therefore, be it
23	23	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
24	24	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Maranda Gail
25	25	Mathis and extend deepest condolences to the members of her
26	26	family: to her parents, Deanna Gornto and Brian Mathis Jr.; to
27	27	her grandfather, Brian Mathis Sr.; to her great-grandmother,
28	28	Margie Mathis; to her brother, Bruce Mathis; to her aunts, Angela
29	29	Turner, Pamela Lucas, Jean Gornto, Barbara Miller, and Carol
30	30	Miller; to her uncles, Melvin Mathis, Ted Gornto Sr., Quinten
31	31	Mathis, James D. Miller, and Greg Garland; to her numerous
32	32	cousins; and to the countless others in Uvalde and beyond who
33	33	mourn her passing; and, be it further
34	34	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
35	35	prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
36	36	this day, it do so in memory of Maranda Mathis.
