55 WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Maranda Gail Mathis of
66 Uvalde on May 24, 2022, at the age of 11, brought an unimaginable
77 loss to the many people who loved and cherished her; and
88 WHEREAS, Maranda Mathis was born in Gainesville, Florida,
99 on May 6, 2011, to Deanna Gornto and Brian Mathis Jr.; she grew up
1010 with the companionship of a brother, Bruce, and she was further
1111 blessed with the affectionate support of her grandfather and
1212 great-grandmother and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and
1313 WHEREAS, Shy and sweet, Maranda enjoyed spending time
1414 outdoors, where her pursuits included collecting rocks, shells,
1515 and feathers; she had a kind heart, an engaging smile, and a vivid
1616 imagination, and she often expressed her love for unicorns and
1717 mermaids, particularly those that were her favorite colors,
1818 purple and pink; and
1919 WHEREAS, Although her time on this earth was far too brief,
2020 Maranda Gail Mathis was a ray of light in the lives of those who
2121 held her dear, and they will never forget the abundant happiness
2222 that she brought to them; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
2424 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Maranda Gail
2525 Mathis and extend deepest condolences to the members of her
2626 family: to her parents, Deanna Gornto and Brian Mathis Jr.; to
2727 her grandfather, Brian Mathis Sr.; to her great-grandmother,
2828 Margie Mathis; to her brother, Bruce Mathis; to her aunts, Angela
2929 Turner, Pamela Lucas, Jean Gornto, Barbara Miller, and Carol
3030 Miller; to her uncles, Melvin Mathis, Ted Gornto Sr., Quinten
3131 Mathis, James D. Miller, and Greg Garland; to her numerous
3232 cousins; and to the countless others in Uvalde and beyond who
3333 mourn her passing; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3535 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3636 this day, it do so in memory of Maranda Mathis.
