55 WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Tess Marie Mata of Uvalde on
66 May 24, 2022, at the age of 10, has profoundly saddened the many
77 people who loved and cherished her; and
88 WHEREAS, Tess Mata was born in San Antonio on February 6,
99 2012, to Jerry and Veronica Mata; she shared a close bond with her
1010 older sister, Faith, and she also enjoyed the affection of her
1111 grandparents, aunt, uncles, and numerous cousins; and
1212 WHEREAS, An athletic young girl, Tess played softball and
1313 soccer and competed in gymnastics; she was an avid fan of the
1414 Houston Astros and especially of second baseman José Altuve, and
1515 she even shared the same position as her favorite player on her
1616 softball team; though feisty and outspoken, she was also blessed
1717 with a caring heart, and she dreamed of one day having a career in
1818 the medical field; and
1919 WHEREAS, While the passing of Tess Mata is an incalculable
2020 loss to those who held her dear, they may find comfort in knowing
2121 that their lives were forever enriched by the joy and love she
2222 shared with them; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
2424 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Tess Marie
2525 Mata and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her
2626 family: to her parents, Jerry and Veronica Mata; to her
2727 sister, Faith Mata; to her grandparents, Raymundo and Rosemary
2828 Mata and Anna Hill; to her aunt, Victoria Streeter; to her
2929 uncles, Robert Hill, Mark Mata, and Ray Mata Jr.; to her
3030 cousins, Nevaeh Streeter, Saige Rodgers, Kara Streeter, Gabie
3131 Mata, and Hayden Mata; and to the countless family members and
3232 friends who mourn her; and, be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3434 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3535 this day, it do so in memory of Tess Mata.
