6- WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
7- a close with the passing of Martha Gay Kokernot Ratliff of Austin on
8- April 21, 2023, at the age of 80; and
9- WHEREAS, The daughter of Rosemary Kibbe Breeden Kokernot and
10- Frederick David Kokernot Jr., the former Gay Kokernot was born on
11- November 2, 1942; during her early childhood, she lived on her
12- family's ranch in Gonzales County, and she later grew up in Cuero,
13- Victoria, and Austin; she attended The University of Texas at
14- Austin, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta; and

1514 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ratliff founded an interior design company,
1615 and over the years, her work was featured in numerous national
1716 publications; a dedicated champion for the arts and for historic
1817 preservation, she played an instrumental role in restoring the
19- Paramount Theatre and establishing the Austin Lyric Opera; she was
20- also a member of the Texas Historical Commission, and she was

25- WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Ratliff enjoyed the love
26- and support of her husband, Shannon Harrison Ratliff, with whom she
27- shared nearly six decades, and she took great pride in their
28- children, Shannon, Rosemary, and Claire, and their grandchildren,
29- Caroline and Shannon; she loved spending time with friends and
30- family, caring for her pets, and tending to her garden; and
24+ WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Ratliff enjoyed the
25+ love and support of her husband, Shannon Harrison Ratliff, with
26+ whom she shared nearly six decades, and she took great pride in
27+ their children, Shannon, Rosemary, and Claire, and their
28+ grandchildren, Caroline and Shannon; she loved spending time
29+ with friends and family, caring for her pets, and tending to her
30+ garden; and
3131 WHEREAS, Gay Ratliff lived a life that was rich in personal
32- and professional achievements, and she will forever be a source of
33- inspiration to those she leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
34- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
35- hereby pay tribute to the memory of Martha Gay Kokernot Ratliff and
36- extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her
37- husband, Shannon Harrison Ratliff; to her children, Shannon
38- Harrison Ratliff II and his wife, Rémi, Rosemary Kokernot Ratliff
39- Harris and her husband, August, and Claire Elizabeth Kokernot
40- Ratliff; to her grandchildren, Caroline Abbott Ratliff and Shannon
41- Harrison Ratliff III; to her sister, Joy Kokernot; and to her other
42- relatives and many friends; and, be it further

38+ children, Shannon Harrison Ratliff II and his wife, Rémi,
39+ Rosemary Kokernot Ratliff Harris and her husband, August, and
40+ Claire Elizabeth Kokernot Ratliff; to her grandchildren,
41+ Caroline Abbott Ratliff and Shannon Harrison Ratliff III; to her
