SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 605
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Covenant Classical School mock trial team for
winning the 2023 Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in
Dallas on March 4, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School in Fort Worth, a
Christian classical school with 118 high school students,
competed against 23 school teams to win the state championship at
the 44th Annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition at the
George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building; and
WHEREAS, The Dallas Bar Association Mock Trial Committee
administers the statewide high school mock trial program, which
was established to help students gain insight into courtroom
procedure and develop skills in critical thinking and analysis;
and
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team was assigned a
fictitious case for which the students were prepared by attorneys
and judges to roleplay from the perspective of every trial
participant; and
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team comprises of
bright, ambitious students who have demonstrated an impressive
commitment to excellence; under the guidance of coordinators
Judge Josh Burgess and attorney Scott Fredricks and team captains
Sophia Foster and Jonathan Fredricks, team members Emerson
Espanet, Elizabeth Farah, Nancy Jageman, Bridgett Kennedy,
Daniel Keyes, Ellie Monwai, Sachi Monwai, Gracie Patel, Emma
Pharris, Nate Smith, and Claire Tollefson performed with
distinction, and the team was recognized by their fellow
competitors at the mock trial competition with the Team
Professionalism Award; and
WHEREAS, Due to the team's hard work and exemplary
performance, Covenant Classical School will represent the State
of Texas at this year's National High School Mock Trial
Competition, which takes place May 18 through 20, 2023, in Little
Rock, Arkansas; team members have demonstrated outstanding
dedication, fine sportsmanship, and excellent teamwork
throughout the school year, and they are a source of tremendous
pride to their families, their school, and the Fort Worth
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Covenant
Classical School mock trial team on winning the 2023 Texas High
School Mock Trial Competition and extend to them best wishes for
success at their appearance in the national competition in May;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
