| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize New Hope Baptist Church of Dallas on its 150th |

| 4 | 4 | | anniversary, which is being celebrated July 23, 2023; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This historic church traces its roots to its |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | congregation's first gathering on July 23, 1873; the oldest |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | African American church in Dallas, New Hope Baptist Church has a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | rich history of community service and benefaction, and the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | congregation worships in an atmosphere filled with light, love, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and fellowship; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, New Hope Baptist Church has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | countless people, including many civic leaders; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | pastors and the outstanding leadership of its current senior |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | pastor, the Reverend Dr. Damien N. Williams, the church has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Dallas community; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, New Hope Baptist Church has become an invaluable |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | source of strength for its members during times of hardship and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | bereavement, and the congregation has shared in many |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | celebrations during times of abundance and joy; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The celebration of its 150th anniversary is an |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church on the joyous |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
