6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life has drawn to a close with |

7 | 7 | | the passing of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead of Sherman on September 2, 2022, |
---|
8 | 8 | | at the age of 87; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Erling and Edna Olmstead, Ellis Olmstead |
---|
10 | 10 | | was born in Galveston on April 3, 1935, and he grew up with a sister, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Erlyn; after graduating from Ball High School in 1953, he attended |
---|
12 | 12 | | The University of Texas, where, at 6'10" tall, he was a valued |
---|
13 | 13 | | member of the Longhorns basketball team, playing throughout all |
---|
14 | 14 | | four years of college; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1957, Mr. Olmstead earned his bachelor's degree |
---|
16 | 16 | | from UT and married the former Patti Le Chapman, and the couple went |
---|
17 | 17 | | on to share 65 years together; after living briefly in Dallas, they |
---|
18 | 18 | | settled in Sherman, where Mr. Olmstead went to work for his |
---|
19 | 19 | | father-in-law at Chapman, Inc., a wholesale gasoline |
---|
20 | 20 | | distributorship; over the course of a career that spanned six |
---|
21 | 21 | | decades, he served as president of the Texas Oil Marketers and the |
---|
22 | 22 | | National Oil Jobbers Council; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Mr. Olmstead served as |
---|
24 | 24 | | president of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce and as chair of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Grayson County Airport Board, and he sat on the boards of Austin |
---|
26 | 26 | | College and Wilson N. Jones Hospital; he was named Sherman |
---|
27 | 27 | | Outstanding Citizen in 1988, and in 2008, he received the Emmett |
---|
28 | 28 | | Essin Community Service Award; an avid pilot for more than 40 years, |
---|
29 | 29 | | he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ranching; moreover, he was an |
---|
30 | 30 | | elder at Central Christian Church; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Although Ellis Olmstead will be deeply missed, this |
---|
32 | 32 | | beloved man has left his family and friends with many cherished |
---|
33 | 33 | | memories, and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts; |
---|
34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

36 | 36 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead and extend |

37 | 37 | | sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Patti |

38 | 38 | | Olmstead; to his children, Kay Ellen Kirby and her husband, Kevin, |

39 | 39 | | Lee Olmstead and his wife, Julie, and Andy Olmstead and his wife, |

40 | 40 | | Stacey; to his grandchildren, Emily and Lauren Kirby, Michal |

41 | 41 | | Overturf, and Clayton, Claire, and Brett Olmstead; to his |

42 | 42 | | great-granddaughter, Margot Overturf; and to his many other |
