55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life has drawn to a close with
77 the passing of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead of Sherman on September 2, 2022,
88 at the age of 87; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Erling and Edna Olmstead, Ellis Olmstead
1010 was born in Galveston on April 3, 1935, and he grew up with a sister,
1111 Erlyn; after graduating from Ball High School in 1953, he attended
1212 The University of Texas, where, at 6'10" tall, he was a valued
1313 member of the Longhorns basketball team, playing throughout all
1414 four years of college; and
1515 WHEREAS, In 1957, Mr. Olmstead earned his bachelor's degree
1616 from UT and married the former Patti Le Chapman, and the couple went
1717 on to share 65 years together; after living briefly in Dallas, they
1818 settled in Sherman, where Mr. Olmstead went to work for his
1919 father-in-law at Chapman, Inc., a wholesale gasoline
2020 distributorship; over the course of a career that spanned six
2121 decades, he served as president of the Texas Oil Marketers and the
2222 National Oil Jobbers Council; and
2323 WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Mr. Olmstead served as
2424 president of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce and as chair of the
2525 Grayson County Airport Board, and he sat on the boards of Austin
2626 College and Wilson N. Jones Hospital; he was named Sherman
2727 Outstanding Citizen in 1988, and in 2008, he received the Emmett
2828 Essin Community Service Award; an avid pilot for more than 40 years,
2929 he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ranching; moreover, he was an
3030 elder at Central Christian Church; and
3131 WHEREAS, Although Ellis Olmstead will be deeply missed, this
3232 beloved man has left his family and friends with many cherished
3333 memories, and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts;
3434 now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3636 hereby pay tribute to the life of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead and extend
3737 sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Patti
3838 Olmstead; to his children, Kay Ellen Kirby and her husband, Kevin,
3939 Lee Olmstead and his wife, Julie, and Andy Olmstead and his wife,
4040 Stacey; to his grandchildren, Emily and Lauren Kirby, Michal
4141 Overturf, and Clayton, Claire, and Brett Olmstead; to his
4242 great-granddaughter, Margot Overturf; and to his many other
4343 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4646 day, it do so in memory of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead.
