| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Daily Mile USA achieved a significant |

| 3 | 3 | | milestone on April 6, 2023, when the program reached an |

| 4 | 4 | | enrollment of one million participants; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, First introduced at a school in Scotland in 2012, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Daily Mile has since grown into a global initiative with more |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | than three million children taking part all over the world, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | including one million American students across some 2,000 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | schools and daycares throughout the country; the program |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | encourages children to engage in 15 minutes of outdoor exercise |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | during the school day, helping to improve their physical, mental, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | emotional, and social health, as well as their academic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | performance; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Daily Mile has received formal backing from |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Youth |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Sports Strategy, the Society of Health and Physical Educators, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and the children's mental health charity Erika's Lighthouse; in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | addition, it has partnerships with such organizations as Special |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Olympics Unified Schools, Mentors Who Move, and Move to Live |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | More; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The initiative is sponsored by INEOS, a global |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | chemical, manufacturing, and energy company, that also supports |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a wide range of charitable endeavors in the fields of health, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | education, and conservation; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Daily Mile USA is helping children across the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | nation to develop healthy habits that will benefit them |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | throughout their lives, and the program is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate The Daily Mile USA on reaching |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | an enrollment of one million participants and extend to all those |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | associated with the initiative sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | success; and, be it further |
