| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Henry Wesley Woodard of Meadow |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | on May 1, 2023, at the age of 18, has brought an unimaginable loss to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the family and friends of this beloved young man; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Brownfield on July 10, 2004, to Jody and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Kathryn Woodard, Wes Woodard grew up with the companionship of a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | younger brother, Kyle, with whom he shared a close bond; he moved |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | with his family to the Meadow area as a young child, and he was set |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to graduate with the Class of 2023 at Meadow High School; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Woodard distinguished himself through his |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | involvement in a multitude of sports, activities, and hobbies; he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | excelled at basketball, track, cross country, and football, and he |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | also found time to participate in FFA, stock shows, robotics, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the National Honor Society as well as in UIL persuasive speaking and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | one-act play competitions; after graduating, he looked forward to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | attending Texas Tech University and becoming a high school |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | basketball coach; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his faith, Mr. Woodard was |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | active in the congregations of both the Brownfield and South Plains |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Churches of Christ; while in high school, he volunteered his time as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a counselor at the church-sponsored Camp Evergreen, where he |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | discovered a passion for mentoring children; he was loved by many in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his church family, and he endeared himself to numerous friends at |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | school and in his community; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for his sense of humor, his generosity, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his optimism, Wes Woodard leaves behind countless people whose |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | lives are far richer for having known him, and he will always hold a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

| 34 | 34 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Henry Wesley Woodard and extend |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his parents, Jody |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | and Kathryn Woodard; to his brother, Kyle Woodard; to his |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | grandparents, Henry McCulloch Jr. and Judy Woodard; and to his many |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | day, it do so in memory of Wes Woodard. |
