55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Henry Wesley Woodard of Meadow
77 on May 1, 2023, at the age of 18, has brought an unimaginable loss to
88 the family and friends of this beloved young man; and
99 WHEREAS, Born in Brownfield on July 10, 2004, to Jody and
1010 Kathryn Woodard, Wes Woodard grew up with the companionship of a
1111 younger brother, Kyle, with whom he shared a close bond; he moved
1212 with his family to the Meadow area as a young child, and he was set
1313 to graduate with the Class of 2023 at Meadow High School; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Woodard distinguished himself through his
1515 involvement in a multitude of sports, activities, and hobbies; he
1616 excelled at basketball, track, cross country, and football, and he
1717 also found time to participate in FFA, stock shows, robotics, and
1818 the National Honor Society as well as in UIL persuasive speaking and
1919 one-act play competitions; after graduating, he looked forward to
2020 attending Texas Tech University and becoming a high school
2121 basketball coach; and
2222 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his faith, Mr. Woodard was
2323 active in the congregations of both the Brownfield and South Plains
2424 Churches of Christ; while in high school, he volunteered his time as
2525 a counselor at the church-sponsored Camp Evergreen, where he
2626 discovered a passion for mentoring children; he was loved by many in
2727 his church family, and he endeared himself to numerous friends at
2828 school and in his community; and
2929 WHEREAS, Beloved for his sense of humor, his generosity, and
3030 his optimism, Wes Woodard leaves behind countless people whose
3131 lives are far richer for having known him, and he will always hold a
3232 treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3434 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Henry Wesley Woodard and extend
3535 profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his parents, Jody
3636 and Kathryn Woodard; to his brother, Kyle Woodard; to his
3737 grandparents, Henry McCulloch Jr. and Judy Woodard; and to his many
3838 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4141 day, it do so in memory of Wes Woodard.
