1+SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 620
62 WHEREAS, Delivering a performance for the ages, Patrick
73 Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in the 2023 Super
8- Bowl, claiming the second championship ring of his NFL career; and
9- WHEREAS, Kansas City battled the Philadelphia Eagles for the
10- NFL title on February 12 in Glendale, Arizona; nursing a high ankle
11- sprain he sustained earlier in the playoffs, Mr. Mahomes reinjured
12- the same ankle in the second quarter and limped off the field,
13- carrying the Chiefs' hopes with him to the sideline bench; in the
14- second half, however, this determined athlete returned to the game
15- and orchestrated a signature comeback; the Chiefs erased a 10-point
16- deficit and secured a 38-35 win in the closing seconds of the game;
17- in recognition of his accomplishment, he was presented with his
18- second Super Bowl MVP award; and
19- WHEREAS, Born in Tyler to Pat and Randi Mahomes, Mr. Mahomes
20- excelled in both baseball and football at Whitehouse High School
21- and threw for 4,600 yards and 50 touchdowns on the gridiron as a
22- senior; he subsequently was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the
23- Major League Baseball Draft, but he instead enrolled at Texas Tech
24- University, joining the baseball team and then switching full-time
25- to football after earning the starting quarterback job for the Red
26- Raiders during his sophomore season; and

43- admiration of fellow players and countless fans across the nation,
44- and it is indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing him for his
45- exceptional achievements; now, therefore, be it
46- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
47- hereby congratulate Patrick Mahomes for leading the Kansas City
48- Chiefs to the 2023 Super Bowl championship and extend to him sincere
49- best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
40+ WHEREAS, Over the course of six NFL seasons, Patrick
41+ Mahomes has emerged as one of the game's premier signal callers,
42+ earning the admiration of fellow players and countless fans
43+ across the nation, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in
