2	6		WHEREAS, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. John
3		-	the Baptist No. 2073 in Alvin marked its 50th anniversary on

5	9		WHEREAS, Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the
6		-	oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the
7		-	Americas with nearly 63,000 members in 1,150 courts; CDA Court
8		-	St. John the Baptist was chartered on June 1, 1973, and is
9		-	sponsored by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin; it
10		-	also covers Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Manvel;
11		-	starting out with 40 charter members, the organization has since
12		-	grown to encompass a thriving membership of more than 120; and
13		-	WHEREAS, Each year, CDA St. John the Baptist holds two
14		-	large events that raise money to support various ministries and
15		-	nonprofit agencies; at the local level, the organization awards
16		-	scholarships to area Catholic school students and helps fund the
17		-	Women's Center of Brazoria County, Archangels of Texas, and
18		-	Military Moms and Wives of Brazoria County, among many other
19		-	groups; moreover, the court donates supplies, time, and funds to
20		-	a number of state CDA initiatives, including Habitat for
21		-	Humanity, Texas Disaster Relief Fund, and Missionaries of Mercy
22		-	projects, and it provides financial support to various national
23		-	projects and charities; and

30		-	Legislature, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Catholic
31		-	Daughters of the Americas Court St. John the Baptist No. 2073 in
32		-	Alvin and extend to all those associated with the organization
33		-	sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	30	+	this important milestone in its rich history; now, therefore, be it
	31	+	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
	32	+	hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Catholic Daughters of
	33	+	the Americas Court St. John the Baptist No. 2073 in Alvin and
	34	+	extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best
	35	+	wishes for the future; and, be it further
34	36		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
35		-	prepared for the court as an expression of high regard from the
