| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Kelly de Schaun is concluding her tenure as CEO of |

| 3 | 3 | | the Galveston Park Board in 2023, after 12 years of dedicated |

| 4 | 4 | | service; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, An expert in coastal tourism and hospitality, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Ms. de Schaun has overseen the Galveston Park Board's tourism |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | marketing, coastal zone management, and park administration; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | under her leadership, the agency has tripled its budget, achieved |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | more than $100 million in coastal restoration projects, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | received numerous awards for special projects and operations; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | she has also chaired the Texas Travel Alliance; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After serving with the Peace Corps in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Dominican Republic, Ms. de Schaun went on to enjoy a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | two-decade-long career in the Caribbean; she worked as the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | director of community and environmental affairs for Grupo |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Puntacana and as executive director of the La Romana-Bayahibe |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Hotel Association, and she helped found and lead the Puntacana |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Ecological Foundation and developed the Caribbean Alliance for |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Sustainable Tourism; during that time, she oversaw the creation |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of a rural clinic, two primary schools, and a biodiversity |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | center; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Ms. de Schaun's accolades include being |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | recognized as both the Citizen of the Year and the Woman of the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Year by the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce and as the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Advocate of the Year by the Texas Travel Alliance; she holds a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management from the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | University of Houston and a master's degree in community and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | regional planning from The University of Texas; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Kelly de Schaun has made significant |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contributions to advancing the mission of the Galveston Park |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Board, and she may take well-deserved pride in her exceptional |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | record of achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commend Kelly de Schaun for her service as |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | CEO of the Galveston Park Board and extend to her sincere best |

| 36 | 36 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
