                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 642
 In Memory
 of
 Wayne Smith Johnston
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Wayne Smith Johnston, who died on July
 14, 2022, at the age of 77; and
 WHEREAS, Wayne Smith Johnston was born on January 5, 1945,
 in Port Arthur; Wayne and his two brothers experienced the joys
 of a rural upbringing, and country life imbued Wayne's spirit
 with a lifelong love of nature, wildlife, and the outdoors; and
 WHEREAS, After graduating from Tivy High School in
 Kerrville, Wayne met the love of his life and future wife, Sue
 Cunningham; he was drafted into the United States Army during the
 Vietnam War in 1966 and deployed to Germany, where he and Sue
 married in 1968; and
 WHEREAS, When Wayne concluded his military service, he and
 Sue moved to Lubbock, and the couple earned their degrees from
 Texas Tech University; Wayne graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's
 of science in agricultural agronomy, and the family settled in
 San Antonio; and
 WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman and an expert in the science
 of soil management and crop production, Wayne led a career in
 agricultural sales and owned a tractor dealership for several
 years before focusing on the sale of mechanic specialty products
 until his retirement; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional and personal
 achievements, Wayne was admired for his kindhearted nature and
 for the warmth and generosity that he extended to others; a
 longtime member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, where he
 served as an elder and deacon for many years, Wayne was led by
 principles of faith and unconditional love in his daily life, and
 he approached his interactions with his loved ones with
 unwavering support, encouragement, and affection; and
 WHEREAS, Wayne and Sue's union of 54 years provided a model
 of lasting devotion to their children, Jamie and Bryson, whom
 they raised by loving example; Wayne's grandsons, Jack and
 Benton, brought immeasurable joy to his life, and he delighted in
 their successes and accomplishments; and
 WHEREAS, Wayne was a compassionate man who gave
 unselfishly to others, and his positive outlook, unwavering
 strength, and dedication to his family set a shining example for
 others to follow; he leaves behind memories that will be forever
 cherished by his loved ones and by all who were blessed to share
 in his life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Wayne Smith Johnston; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Wayne Johnston.
