8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Wayne Smith Johnston was born on January 5, 1945, |

9 | 10 | | in Port Arthur; Wayne and his two brothers experienced the joys |

10 | 11 | | of a rural upbringing, and country life imbued Wayne's spirit |

11 | 12 | | with a lifelong love of nature, wildlife, and the outdoors; and |

12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Tivy High School in |
---|
13 | 14 | | Kerrville, Wayne met the love of his life and future wife, Sue |
---|
14 | 15 | | Cunningham; he was drafted into the United States Army during the |
---|
15 | 16 | | Vietnam War in 1966 and deployed to Germany, where he and Sue |
---|
16 | 17 | | married in 1968; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, When Wayne concluded his military service, he and |
---|
18 | 19 | | Sue moved to Lubbock, and the couple earned their degrees from |
---|
19 | 20 | | Texas Tech University; Wayne graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's |
---|
20 | 21 | | of science in agricultural agronomy, and the family settled in |
---|
21 | 22 | | San Antonio; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman and an expert in the science |
---|
23 | 24 | | of soil management and crop production, Wayne led a career in |
---|
24 | 25 | | agricultural sales and owned a tractor dealership for several |
---|
25 | 26 | | years before focusing on the sale of mechanic specialty products |
---|
26 | 27 | | until his retirement; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional and personal |
---|
28 | 29 | | achievements, Wayne was admired for his kindhearted nature and |
---|
29 | 30 | | for the warmth and generosity that he extended to others; a |
---|
30 | 31 | | longtime member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, where he |
---|
31 | 32 | | served as an elder and deacon for many years, Wayne was led by |
---|
32 | 33 | | principles of faith and unconditional love in his daily life, and |
---|
33 | 34 | | he approached his interactions with his loved ones with |
---|
34 | 35 | | unwavering support, encouragement, and affection; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Wayne and Sue's union of 54 years provided a model |
---|
36 | 37 | | of lasting devotion to their children, Jamie and Bryson, whom |
---|
37 | 38 | | they raised by loving example; Wayne's grandsons, Jack and |
---|
38 | 39 | | Benton, brought immeasurable joy to his life, and he delighted in |
---|
39 | 40 | | their successes and accomplishments; and |
---|
40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Wayne was a compassionate man who gave |
---|
41 | 42 | | unselfishly to others, and his positive outlook, unwavering |
---|
42 | 43 | | strength, and dedication to his family set a shining example for |

43 | 44 | | others to follow; he leaves behind memories that will be forever |
---|
44 | 45 | | cherished by his loved ones and by all who were blessed to share |

45 | 46 | | in his life; now, therefore, be it |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

47 | 48 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |

48 | 49 | | family of Wayne Smith Johnston; and, be it further |

49 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
