| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Korean American Association of El Paso |

| 3 | 3 | | provided vital aid to the citizens of Turkey in the wake of the |

| 4 | 4 | | devastating earthquakes that impacted the nation in February |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | 2023; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, On February 6, a magnitude 7.8 quake struck |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | southern Turkey and northern Syria, and strong aftershocks |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | continued to ravage communities in the weeks that followed; the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | earthquakes killed at least 50,000 people and injured many more, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and the widespread destruction of property left hundreds of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | thousands homeless; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In response to the disaster, the Korean American |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Association of El Paso worked tirelessly to collect donations and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | raise funds for the people of Turkey; the organization has |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | benefited immeasurably from the contributions of its members, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | who are veterans of armed forces in the United States as well as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | other nations; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Korean American Association of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | El Paso have helped to ease the burden on a number of earthquake |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | survivors in Turkey, and in so doing, they have set an inspiring |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | example of compassion and generosity toward others; now, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Korean American Association of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | El Paso for its contributions to earthquake relief efforts in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Turkey and extend to the organization's members sincere best |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
