55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of Chief Warrant Officer
66 III Dustin Lee Mortenson of League City suffered an immeasurable
77 loss with the death of this courageous Texan on December 28,
88 2016, at the age of 32; and
99 WHEREAS, Dustin Mortenson was born on February 6, 1984; he
1010 joined the U.S. Army in April 2003, and he completed Warrant
1111 Officer Candidate School in Fort Rucker, Alabama; he trained to
1212 become an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter and maintenance test
1313 pilot, and he was deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Yugoslavia,
1414 Kosovo, and Germany; and
1515 WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Chief Warrant Officer
1616 Mortenson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 149th Aviation
1717 Regiment, 36th Infantry Division of the Texas Army National
1818 Guard; in recognition of his dedicated service, he received three
1919 Army Commendation Medals, the Kosovo Campaign Service Medal with
2020 Bronze Service Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two
2121 stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two stars, two NATO Medals,
2222 three Overseas Service Ribbons, the Global War on Terrorism
2323 Medal, the Air Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, and the
2424 Senior Army Aviation Badge; and
2525 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mortenson enjoyed the
2626 love and support of his wife, Ruth, and their children; and
2727 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S.
2828 armed forces, Dustin Mortenson inspired others with his
2929 fortitude, tenacity, and dedication, and his fellow Americans
3030 owe him a debt that the passage of time can never diminish;
3131 now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3333 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and service of Chief
3434 Warrant Officer III Dustin Lee Mortenson and extend deepest
3535 condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3737 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3838 this day, it do so in memory of Dustin Mortenson.
