| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | memories of retired Wichita County sheriff Thomas Joseph Callahan, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | who passed away on August 12, 2021, at the age of 74; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Thomas and Catherine Callahan, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Thomas Callahan was born on November 3, 1946, in Havertown, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Pennsylvania, and grew up with a sister, Catherine, and four |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | brothers, Joseph, Brian, Patrick, and Francis; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Callahan joined |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Wichita County Sheriff's Office as a jailer and rose through the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | ranks to deputy and then to lieutenant; he was appointed sheriff in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1986 and was subsequently elected to the position for the next five |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | terms, becoming the longest-serving sheriff in the county; after |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | retiring in 2008, he taught criminal justice at Midwestern State |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | University; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan shared a rewarding marriage with his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | wife, Mary Anne, and he took great pride in his four children, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Siobain, Coreen, Thomas, and Aiden; with the passing years, he had |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the privilege of seeing his family grow to include eight |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his kind and generous nature, his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | delightful sense of humor, and his deep devotion to his family, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Thomas Callahan lived a life that was rich in personal and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas Joseph Callahan and extend |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 34 | 34 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | day, it do so in memory of Thomas Callahan. |
