55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Gene Marshall DeLoach, who died
77 May 16, 2023, at the age of 80; and
88 WHEREAS, Gene DeLoach was born on March 12, 1943, in West
99 Point, Georgia, to Wade and Doris DeLoach; a distinguished
1010 military veteran and a proud civil servant, Gene devoted
1111 himself to serving his community and the State of Texas
1212 throughout his long and rewarding career in law enforcement;
1313 he served more than three decades as a Texas game warden, and
1414 he was passionate about protecting the natural resources,
1515 wildlife, and beauty of Texas; and
1616 WHEREAS, Gene enlisted in the United States Army in 1962
1717 and was stationed for training in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he met
1818 his future bride, Shirley Ann Cosper; the two were married on
1919 April 22, 1964, in Wichita Falls, and Gene was deployed to
2020 Vietnam that same year; he served his country with distinction
2121 before returning home in 1965, and he and Shirley settled in
2222 Killeen; and
2323 WHEREAS, Gene served with the Killeen Police Department
2424 before attending the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden
2525 Academy, and he graduated in 1973; Gene served as a Texas game
2626 warden in Hamilton, where he and his family made their home;
2727 dedicated throughout his 30 years of service, he managed the many
2828 responsibilities of law enforcement with diligence and honor
2929 while contributing to preserving the natural habitats of Central
3030 Texas, and his efforts helped to promote an appreciation of the
3131 natural world for future generations of Texans; and
3232 WHEREAS, Gene was an avid outdoorsman and found great joy
3333 in hunting, fishing, and traveling to Colorado with his friends;
3434 above all else, he cherished his wife, Shirley, and their
3535 children, Michele, Michael, and Mark; his six grandchildren and
3636 his five great-grandchildren enriched his life immeasurably; and
3737 WHEREAS, Beloved by many, Gene engaged in life with vigor
3838 and determination, and his adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for
3939 living each day to the fullest were a source of inspiration to
4040 others; he will long be remembered with respect and admiration by
4141 his family and by all who were privileged to share in his life;
4242 now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4444 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4545 family of Gene Marshall DeLoach; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4747 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4848 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4949 memory of Gene DeLoach.
