5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Gene Marshall DeLoach, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | May 16, 2023, at the age of 80; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Gene DeLoach was born on March 12, 1943, in West |
---|
9 | 9 | | Point, Georgia, to Wade and Doris DeLoach; a distinguished |
---|
10 | 10 | | military veteran and a proud civil servant, Gene devoted |
---|
11 | 11 | | himself to serving his community and the State of Texas |
---|
12 | 12 | | throughout his long and rewarding career in law enforcement; |
---|
13 | 13 | | he served more than three decades as a Texas game warden, and |
---|
14 | 14 | | he was passionate about protecting the natural resources, |
---|
15 | 15 | | wildlife, and beauty of Texas; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Gene enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 |
---|
17 | 17 | | and was stationed for training in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he met |
---|
18 | 18 | | his future bride, Shirley Ann Cosper; the two were married on |
---|
19 | 19 | | April 22, 1964, in Wichita Falls, and Gene was deployed to |
---|
20 | 20 | | Vietnam that same year; he served his country with distinction |
---|
21 | 21 | | before returning home in 1965, and he and Shirley settled in |
---|
22 | 22 | | Killeen; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Gene served with the Killeen Police Department |
---|
24 | 24 | | before attending the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden |
---|
25 | 25 | | Academy, and he graduated in 1973; Gene served as a Texas game |
---|
26 | 26 | | warden in Hamilton, where he and his family made their home; |
---|
27 | 27 | | dedicated throughout his 30 years of service, he managed the many |
---|
28 | 28 | | responsibilities of law enforcement with diligence and honor |
---|
29 | 29 | | while contributing to preserving the natural habitats of Central |
---|
30 | 30 | | Texas, and his efforts helped to promote an appreciation of the |
---|
31 | 31 | | natural world for future generations of Texans; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Gene was an avid outdoorsman and found great joy |
---|
33 | 33 | | in hunting, fishing, and traveling to Colorado with his friends; |
---|
34 | 34 | | above all else, he cherished his wife, Shirley, and their |
---|
35 | 35 | | children, Michele, Michael, and Mark; his six grandchildren and |
---|
36 | 36 | | his five great-grandchildren enriched his life immeasurably; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Beloved by many, Gene engaged in life with vigor |
---|
38 | 38 | | and determination, and his adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for |
---|
39 | 39 | | living each day to the fullest were a source of inspiration to |
---|
40 | 40 | | others; he will long be remembered with respect and admiration by |
---|
41 | 41 | | his family and by all who were privileged to share in his life; |
---|
42 | 42 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
45 | 45 | | family of Gene Marshall DeLoach; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
47 | 47 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
48 | 48 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

49 | 49 | | memory of Gene DeLoach. |
