2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Sean Michael Terry, the Mayor of Mayors, has |

3 | 3 | | established a legacy of remarkable service and set an inspiring |

4 | 4 | | example through his selfless devotion to Celina and its ideals; and |

5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Terry was born on Sheppard Air Force Base in |
---|
6 | 6 | | Wichita Falls, Texas, and is a sixth-generation Collin County |
---|
7 | 7 | | resident; he graduated from Gunter High School as a multisport |
---|
8 | 8 | | letterman, and the "Punter from Gunter" received a football |
---|
9 | 9 | | scholarship to Texas A&M University, where he played under R. C. |
---|
10 | 10 | | Slocum; he was elected team captain as a senior and enjoyed a |
---|
11 | 11 | | career average of more than 40 yards a punt; the last barefoot |
---|
12 | 12 | | punter in the Southwest Conference, he helped win multiple |
---|
13 | 13 | | conference championships and bowl games; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Answering the call for greater purpose, Mr. Terry |
---|
15 | 15 | | served 11 years as a volunteer fireman, responding to many brush |
---|
16 | 16 | | and structure fires, medical situations, and weather-related |
---|
17 | 17 | | disasters; he was mentored by "Mr. Celina," Corbett Howard, and |
---|
18 | 18 | | in 2008, Mr. Terry was first elected to the city council; he was |
---|
19 | 19 | | mayor of Celina for 10 years, and he has also served as president |
---|
20 | 20 | | of the North Texas Mayors Association, coached sports teams, and |
---|
21 | 21 | | served in many other volunteer capacities; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Terry ably led Celina through the COVID-19 |
---|
23 | 23 | | pandemic, reporting daily to residents through virtual |
---|
24 | 24 | | messaging, organizing high school-student volunteers to deliver |
---|
25 | 25 | | food orders from local restaurants, and encouraging residents to |
---|
26 | 26 | | help one another, to not panic, and to support local businesses; |
---|
27 | 27 | | his rallying efforts allowed Celina to experience unprecedented |
---|
28 | 28 | | sales tax growth; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Striving for excellence, Mr. Terry stewarded |
---|
30 | 30 | | Celina during a period of hyper growth and development; he |
---|
31 | 31 | | fortified the community with visionary long-range planning and |
---|
32 | 32 | | infrastructure investment, as well as advanced ordinances; with |
---|
33 | 33 | | his talented staff, he positioned the city to best regulate its |
---|
34 | 34 | | robust growth; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Sean Terry is a believer in the value of |
---|
36 | 36 | | community, and he demonstrated a deep commitment to Celina's |
---|
37 | 37 | | heart, its downtown square; he championed the golf-cart |
---|
38 | 38 | | lifestyle, and he was an ardent supporter of parks, the arts, and |
---|
39 | 39 | | special events for the community; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Forging relationships naturally, he routinely |
---|
41 | 41 | | raised money to assist those in need, helped residents with |
---|
42 | 42 | | utility situations, compassionately reached out to those |
---|
43 | 43 | | experiencing grief and suffering, and fervently promoted, |
---|
44 | 44 | | recognized, and supported local students in athletics and all |
---|
45 | 45 | | extracurricular activities; and |
---|
46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, Sean Terry has a passion for extraordinary |
---|
47 | 47 | | service; he is the son of educators and servant leaders, his |
---|
48 | 48 | | father having served in Vietnam, as a coach, and as a |
---|
49 | 49 | | superintendent of schools; previously, his grandfather was the |
---|
50 | 50 | | first superintendent in the Allen Independent School District, |
---|
51 | 51 | | and Rountree Elementary School was named in his honor; |
---|
52 | 52 | | Mr. Terry's mother is a dedicated teacher; and |
---|
53 | 53 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Terry has been married to his wife, Angie, for |
---|
54 | 54 | | over 30 years; he has a daughter, Kylee, a graduate of Texas A&M |
---|
55 | 55 | | University, and a son, Kade, a student at TAMU; and |
---|
56 | 56 | | WHEREAS, Sean Terry has demonstrated a longstanding |
---|
57 | 57 | | commitment to his community, earning the gratitude of |
---|
58 | 58 | | innumerable Texans for his remarkable service and devotion; now, |
---|
59 | 59 | | therefore, be it |

60 | 60 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

61 | 61 | | Legislature, hereby honor Sean Terry for his outstanding record |
---|
62 | 62 | | of public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for |

63 | 63 | | continued success in his future endeavors; and, be it further |
