11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 688
22 WHEREAS, Sean Michael Terry, the Mayor of Mayors, has
33 established a legacy of remarkable service and set an inspiring
44 example through his selfless devotion to Celina and its ideals; and
55 WHEREAS, Mr. Terry was born on Sheppard Air Force Base in
66 Wichita Falls, Texas, and is a sixth-generation Collin County
77 resident; he graduated from Gunter High School as a multisport
88 letterman, and the "Punter from Gunter" received a football
99 scholarship to Texas A&M University, where he played under R. C.
1010 Slocum; he was elected team captain as a senior and enjoyed a
1111 career average of more than 40 yards a punt; the last barefoot
1212 punter in the Southwest Conference, he helped win multiple
1313 conference championships and bowl games; and
1414 WHEREAS, Answering the call for greater purpose, Mr. Terry
1515 served 11 years as a volunteer fireman, responding to many brush
1616 and structure fires, medical situations, and weather-related
1717 disasters; he was mentored by "Mr. Celina," Corbett Howard, and
1818 in 2008, Mr. Terry was first elected to the city council; he was
1919 mayor of Celina for 10 years, and he has also served as president
2020 of the North Texas Mayors Association, coached sports teams, and
2121 served in many other volunteer capacities; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mr. Terry ably led Celina through the COVID-19
2323 pandemic, reporting daily to residents through virtual
2424 messaging, organizing high school-student volunteers to deliver
2525 food orders from local restaurants, and encouraging residents to
2626 help one another, to not panic, and to support local businesses;
2727 his rallying efforts allowed Celina to experience unprecedented
2828 sales tax growth; and
2929 WHEREAS, Striving for excellence, Mr. Terry stewarded
3030 Celina during a period of hyper growth and development; he
3131 fortified the community with visionary long-range planning and
3232 infrastructure investment, as well as advanced ordinances; with
3333 his talented staff, he positioned the city to best regulate its
3434 robust growth; and
3535 WHEREAS, Sean Terry is a believer in the value of
3636 community, and he demonstrated a deep commitment to Celina's
3737 heart, its downtown square; he championed the golf-cart
3838 lifestyle, and he was an ardent supporter of parks, the arts, and
3939 special events for the community; and
4040 WHEREAS, Forging relationships naturally, he routinely
4141 raised money to assist those in need, helped residents with
4242 utility situations, compassionately reached out to those
4343 experiencing grief and suffering, and fervently promoted,
4444 recognized, and supported local students in athletics and all
4545 extracurricular activities; and
4646 WHEREAS, Sean Terry has a passion for extraordinary
4747 service; he is the son of educators and servant leaders, his
4848 father having served in Vietnam, as a coach, and as a
4949 superintendent of schools; previously, his grandfather was the
5050 first superintendent in the Allen Independent School District,
5151 and Rountree Elementary School was named in his honor;
5252 Mr. Terry's mother is a dedicated teacher; and
5353 WHEREAS, Mr. Terry has been married to his wife, Angie, for
5454 over 30 years; he has a daughter, Kylee, a graduate of Texas A&M
5555 University, and a son, Kade, a student at TAMU; and
5656 WHEREAS, Sean Terry has demonstrated a longstanding
5757 commitment to his community, earning the gratitude of
5858 innumerable Texans for his remarkable service and devotion; now,
5959 therefore, be it
6060 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
6161 Legislature, hereby honor Sean Terry for his outstanding record
6262 of public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for
6363 continued success in his future endeavors; and, be it further
6464 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
6565 prepared for Sean Terry as an expression of high regard from the
6666 Texas Senate.
