5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the friends and |

7 | 7 | | family of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap who passed away on October 21, |
---|
8 | 8 | | 2022, at the age of 38; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap was born to Rodney and Sherry |
---|
10 | 10 | | Gilstrap in Marshall on November 25, 1983, and she grew up with |
---|
11 | 11 | | the companionship of a brother, Stephen; she graduated as |
---|
12 | 12 | | valedictorian of her high school class and she received two |
---|
13 | 13 | | bachelor's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, where |
---|
14 | 14 | | she was a Truman Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she went |
---|
15 | 15 | | on to earn a doctor of medicine degree and a master's degree in |
---|
16 | 16 | | public health from Harvard University, and she completed an |
---|
17 | 17 | | internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, |
---|
18 | 18 | | as well as fellowships in cardiovascular medicine, heart |
---|
19 | 19 | | failure, and cardiac transplantation at Brigham and Women's |
---|
20 | 20 | | Hospital; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 2018, Dr. Gilstrap moved to Hanover, New |
---|
22 | 22 | | Hampshire, to join the faculty of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical |
---|
23 | 23 | | Center Heart and Vascular Center with a joint appointment in the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice; in |
---|
25 | 25 | | addition, she was an assistant professor at the Dartmouth College |
---|
26 | 26 | | Geisel School of Medicine, and in 2021, she became the program |
---|
27 | 27 | | head for advanced heart disease and transplant cardiology in the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Heart and Vascular Center; during her time at Dartmouth, she was |
---|
29 | 29 | | recognized as an outstanding clinician, educator, and mentor for |
---|
30 | 30 | | students, residents, fellows, and faculty; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Gilstrap benefited from |
---|
32 | 32 | | the love and support of her wife, Janet Milley, and she took great |
---|
33 | 33 | | pride in her two children, Katelyn and David; in her leisure |
---|
34 | 34 | | hours, she enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, climbing mountains, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | traveling with her family and friends; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap embraced life to the fullest, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | she will forever remain a vibrant presence for those who knew and |
---|
38 | 38 | | loved her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Lauren Gray |
---|
41 | 41 | | Gilstrap and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her |
---|
42 | 42 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
44 | 44 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |

45 | 45 | | this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Lauren Gilstrap. |
