55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the friends and
77 family of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap who passed away on October 21,
88 2022, at the age of 38; and
99 WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap was born to Rodney and Sherry
1010 Gilstrap in Marshall on November 25, 1983, and she grew up with
1111 the companionship of a brother, Stephen; she graduated as
1212 valedictorian of her high school class and she received two
1313 bachelor's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, where
1414 she was a Truman Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she went
1515 on to earn a doctor of medicine degree and a master's degree in
1616 public health from Harvard University, and she completed an
1717 internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital,
1818 as well as fellowships in cardiovascular medicine, heart
1919 failure, and cardiac transplantation at Brigham and Women's
2020 Hospital; and
2121 WHEREAS, In 2018, Dr. Gilstrap moved to Hanover, New
2222 Hampshire, to join the faculty of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical
2323 Center Heart and Vascular Center with a joint appointment in the
2424 Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice; in
2525 addition, she was an assistant professor at the Dartmouth College
2626 Geisel School of Medicine, and in 2021, she became the program
2727 head for advanced heart disease and transplant cardiology in the
2828 Heart and Vascular Center; during her time at Dartmouth, she was
2929 recognized as an outstanding clinician, educator, and mentor for
3030 students, residents, fellows, and faculty; and
3131 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Gilstrap benefited from
3232 the love and support of her wife, Janet Milley, and she took great
3333 pride in her two children, Katelyn and David; in her leisure
3434 hours, she enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, climbing mountains, and
3535 traveling with her family and friends; and
3636 WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap embraced life to the fullest, and
3737 she will forever remain a vibrant presence for those who knew and
3838 loved her; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4040 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Lauren Gray
4141 Gilstrap and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her
4242 passing; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4444 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4545 this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Lauren Gilstrap.
