5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close |

6 | 6 | | with the passing of Dr. Marvin Graydon Stephens Jr. of Tyler on |

7 | 7 | | April 10, 2023, at the age of 81; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Marvin Graydon Stephens Sr. and Emma |
---|
9 | 9 | | Charlotte Woods Stephens, Marvin Stephens was born in Fort Worth |
---|
10 | 10 | | on April 5, 1942; he attended Texas Tech University and served in |
---|
11 | 11 | | the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve; after graduating from Baylor |
---|
12 | 12 | | Dental School and the Baylor School of Orthodontics, he |
---|
13 | 13 | | established his practice in Tyler; dedicated to his patients and |
---|
14 | 14 | | to his profession, he was active in numerous organizations and |
---|
15 | 15 | | served in many leadership roles, including as president of the |
---|
16 | 16 | | Smith County Dental Society, the Baylor Orthodontic Alumni |
---|
17 | 17 | | Association, and the Southwest Component of the E. H. Angle |
---|
18 | 18 | | Society of Orthodontists; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stephens was also engaged in his community; a |
---|
20 | 20 | | charter member of the Tyler Centurion Club, he was a longtime |
---|
21 | 21 | | member of the Tyler Lions Club and the Order of The Rose of The |
---|
22 | 22 | | Texas Rose Festival as well; a man of faith, he was a valued |
---|
23 | 23 | | member of Marvin Methodist Church, serving as a youth Sunday |
---|
24 | 24 | | school teacher and as an usher; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Above all, Dr. Stephens was devoted to his |
---|
26 | 26 | | family; he shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Penny, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | he took great pride in his children, Brooke, Cory, and the late |
---|
28 | 28 | | Marvin Graydon Stephens III, who preceded his father in death; |
---|
29 | 29 | | over the years, he attended every one of his children's games, |
---|
30 | 30 | | recitals, and special events, and he enjoyed many happy hours |
---|
31 | 31 | | with his family relaxing at the lake and traveling; his son Cory |
---|
32 | 32 | | followed in his footsteps and joined his practice; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Although Marvin Stephens is deeply missed by |
---|
34 | 34 | | those he left behind, they will forever treasure their memories |
---|
35 | 35 | | of his warmth, kindness, and optimism; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Marvin Graydon |
---|
38 | 38 | | Stephens Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |

39 | 39 | | family: to his wife, Penny Kennard Stephens; to his son, |

40 | 40 | | Dr. Cory Stephens; to his daughter, Brooke Marie Stephens; to his |

41 | 41 | | granddaughter, Marlee Blythe Stephens; to his sister, Janie |

42 | 42 | | Lehmann, and her husband, Dr. Jerry Lehmann; to his niece, |
