55 WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close
66 with the passing of Dr. Marvin Graydon Stephens Jr. of Tyler on
77 April 10, 2023, at the age of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Marvin Graydon Stephens Sr. and Emma
99 Charlotte Woods Stephens, Marvin Stephens was born in Fort Worth
1010 on April 5, 1942; he attended Texas Tech University and served in
1111 the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve; after graduating from Baylor
1212 Dental School and the Baylor School of Orthodontics, he
1313 established his practice in Tyler; dedicated to his patients and
1414 to his profession, he was active in numerous organizations and
1515 served in many leadership roles, including as president of the
1616 Smith County Dental Society, the Baylor Orthodontic Alumni
1717 Association, and the Southwest Component of the E. H. Angle
1818 Society of Orthodontists; and
1919 WHEREAS, Dr. Stephens was also engaged in his community; a
2020 charter member of the Tyler Centurion Club, he was a longtime
2121 member of the Tyler Lions Club and the Order of The Rose of The
2222 Texas Rose Festival as well; a man of faith, he was a valued
2323 member of Marvin Methodist Church, serving as a youth Sunday
2424 school teacher and as an usher; and
2525 WHEREAS, Above all, Dr. Stephens was devoted to his
2626 family; he shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Penny, and
2727 he took great pride in his children, Brooke, Cory, and the late
2828 Marvin Graydon Stephens III, who preceded his father in death;
2929 over the years, he attended every one of his children's games,
3030 recitals, and special events, and he enjoyed many happy hours
3131 with his family relaxing at the lake and traveling; his son Cory
3232 followed in his footsteps and joined his practice; and
3333 WHEREAS, Although Marvin Stephens is deeply missed by
3434 those he left behind, they will forever treasure their memories
3535 of his warmth, kindness, and optimism; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3737 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Marvin Graydon
3838 Stephens Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
3939 family: to his wife, Penny Kennard Stephens; to his son,
4040 Dr. Cory Stephens; to his daughter, Brooke Marie Stephens; to his
4141 granddaughter, Marlee Blythe Stephens; to his sister, Janie
4242 Lehmann, and her husband, Dr. Jerry Lehmann; to his niece,
4343 Dr. Melissa Lehmann; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
4444 be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4747 this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Marvin Graydon Stephens Jr.
