66 WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
77 cause for celebration, and Dorothy Doss of Fort Worth reached that
88 impressive milestone in her life in 2022; and
99 WHEREAS, Dorothy Doss grew up in Weatherford, and while
1010 working at a bank one summer, she met a young banker named James
1111 Houston Doss Jr., whose family's roots in Parker County dated back
1212 to 1855; the couple were married in the town's Presbyterian Church,
1313 and they shared many years together as leading citizens of
1414 Weatherford; they were blessed with two sons, Jim and John, and a
1515 daughter, Nancy; and
1616 WHEREAS, Over the years, the Doss family were generous
1717 supporters of Weatherford College, and later in life, Mrs. Doss
1818 played a vital role in the restoration of the church where she and
1919 her husband were married; Mr. Doss passed away in 2000, and in 2006,
2020 the James and Dorothy Doss Heritage and Culture Center opened in
2121 Weatherford; this handsome, 23,000-square-foot museum is dedicated
2222 to celebrating the rich heritage of Parker County through its
2323 collections, exhibitions, and events; and
2424 WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Doss lives in retirement in Fort Worth,
2525 where she delights in the company of her friends and loved ones; and
2626 WHEREAS, Dorothy Doss has witnessed a panorama of change over
2727 the course of a century, and her birthday provides a welcome
2828 opportunity for those who know and love her to share their
2929 appreciation for the service she has rendered to her community and
3030 for the joy she has imparted to others throughout her life; now,
3131 therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3333 hereby congratulate Dorothy Doss on her 100th birthday and extend
3434 to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
3535 further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3737 prepared for Mrs. Doss as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3838 Senate.
