| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sanctioned by the Champions Barbecue Alliance as |

| 6 | 6 | | one of the organization's state championship cook-offs, this |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | much-anticipated event attracts talented chefs from across Texas |

| 8 | 8 | | and beyond; these highly skilled pitmasters put their culinary |

| 9 | 9 | | abilities to the test as they vie to produce the tastiest entries |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in several different categories; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The event's grand champion will receive an |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | invitation to the American Royal World Series of Barbecue contest |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | as well as a chance to compete at the Jack Daniel's World |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Championship Invitational Barbecue competition; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The DPS Troopers Foundation is a nonprofit |

| 16 | 16 | | organization that supports DPS Officers Association members |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | through education and training, emergency financial assistance, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and scholarships for qualifying family members; the foundation |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | also provides benefits for survivors of DPS personnel, and it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | donates to programs for at-risk youth; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the DPS Troopers Foundation Burn and Turn BBQ Cook-Off is sure to |

| 23 | 23 | | offer good food and good times to everyone in attendance; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 2023 DPS Troopers Foundation |

| 28 | 28 | | contestants, and attendees sincere best wishes for a fun and |
