	1	+	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 714
6	2		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
7	3		recognize La Juana Dianne Barton on her distinguished career and
8	4		on her three decades of loyal service in the office of Senator
9	5		Royce West; and
10	6		WHEREAS, La Juana Barton serves as chief of staff to
11	7		Senator West, and she has served as a staff member in the
12	8		senator's Austin and Dallas offices since beginning her
13	9		employment on March 26, 1993; in the course of her tenure with the
14	10		office, she has held a number of positions, including district
15	11		office manager, Dallas chief of staff, and senior policy analyst
16	12		for the Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education; and
17	13		WHEREAS, The eldest child of Charles and Patricia
18	14		Butcher-Barton, La Juana was born in Dallas and graduated from
19	15		Franklin D. Roosevelt High School; she grew up in Dallas, and she
20	16		studied business and marketing at Amber University in Garland in
21	17		addition to attending The University of Texas at Austin, where
22	18		she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations
23	19		with a minor in English; and
24	20		WHEREAS, An intelligent and determined individual with an
25	21		uncompromising work ethic, La Juana has served as president and
26	22		owner of L. D. Barton Public Relations in Dallas since 1988; she
27	23		has worked with a variety of well-known companies and
28	24		organizations through her business and has also served as an
29	25		account executive and operations manager in communications and
30	26		public relations positions; and
31	27		WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, La Juana has
32	28		received a number of prestigious accolades in recognition of her
33	29		professional achievements and her contributions to education and
34	30		public policy; in 2021, she was honored with the Fourth Annual
35	31		Texas Educational Policy Institute Award and with the Texas
36	32		Alliance of Black School Educators Award from the Governance in
37	33		Education Symposium; she was named a recipient of the 2022 Unsung
38	34		Hero Award by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and she has been
39	35		honored to receive the Yellow Rose of Texas Award from Governor
40	36		Ann Richards and the Mamie Elizabeth Williams Humanitarian
41	37		Award; and
42	38		WHEREAS, La Juana is an exemplary citizen and an active
43	39		member of her community, and she is a devoted congregant of
44	40		Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas; in her free time, she
45	41		enjoys traveling and socializing with friends and pursues a
46	42		variety of creative interests and endeavors, which include
47	43		photography, art, and design as well as her work as a talented and
48	44		accomplished writer; and
49		-	WHEREAS, Diligent and resourceful, La Juana Barton has
50		-	long been an indispensable member of the staff of Senator Royce
51		-	West, and she has fulfilled the wide-ranging responsibilities
52		-	and challenges of each of her roles with dedication, fortitude,
53		-	and grace; her prudent judgment, professionalism, and commitment
54		-	to excellence have long been admired and appreciated by Senator
55		-	West and by her colleagues and staff, and it is indeed fitting
56		-	that she receive special recognition in honor of the 30th
57		-	anniversary of her employment and on her invaluable
58		-	contributions to the office of Senator West; now, therefore, be
59		-	it

	46	+	been an indispensable member of the staff of Senator Royce West,

63	58		and extend to her congratulations on achieving this exceptional
64	59		milestone in her career and best wishes in all of her endeavors;
65	60		and, be it further
66	61		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
67	62		her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
