11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 721
22 WHEREAS, For more than a century, the Legislative Reference
33 Library has provided invaluable assistance to Texas lawmakers; and
44 WHEREAS, Housing a specialized collection of materials
55 including original legislative bill files dating back to the 63rd
66 Session, historical and current publications of legislative
77 committees, of state agencies, and of institutions of higher
88 education, legal resources, and periodicals, the library is well
99 positioned to support the varied and extensive work of
1010 legislators; and
1111 WHEREAS, The library's electronic data systems expedite
1212 the delivery of knowledge to the legislative community; the Texas
1313 Appointment System contains information on members of state
1414 councils, boards, and committees appointed by the governor,
1515 lieutenant governor, and speaker; the Legislative Archive System
1616 holds the only electronic version of original legislative bill
1717 files and documentation, while the Index to Sections Affected
1818 details the proposed statutory effect of bills; moreover, the
1919 library maintains Texas Legislators: Past & Present, a database
2020 highlighting legislative membership information from 1846 to
2121 today, as well as a legislative reports database covering that
2222 same period, and it archives gubernatorial executive orders,
2323 messages, and proclamations; and
2424 WHEREAS, During legislative sessions, the library plays an
2525 integral part in the legislative process; staff members develop
2626 electronic records in the Texas Legislative Tracking System for
2727 each bill or resolution filed, assign and enter subject terms and
2828 companion relationships, and review enrolled legislation for
2929 effective dates of each measure; moreover, library staff members
3030 stationed on the floor of the house and senate chambers enter
3131 legislative actions as they occur and furnish real-time
3232 information to the legislative community, executive agencies,
3333 and citizens of this state through such proprietary applications
3434 as TLIS (the Texas Legislative Information System) and TLO (Texas
3535 Legislature Online); and
3636 WHEREAS, Among the services the library offers are a bill
3737 status hotline for constituents, professional and confidential
3838 research, a daily legislative clipping service, weekly listings
3939 of important journal articles, and monthly listings of
4040 newsworthy additions to the library's collection; and
4141 WHEREAS, Guided skillfully by director and librarian Mary
4242 L. Camp, the Legislative Reference Library staff includes
4343 assistant director and librarian Catherine Wusterhausen and
4444 librarians Elizabeth Buchanan, Colton Chambers, Ali Dzienkowski,
4545 Melanie Harshman, Elizabeth Hinderer, Karen McBurney, Marissa
4646 Talamantes, and Ia Wood; the library's archivists are Tricia
4747 Bailey, Linna Dean, and Kaelyn Morice; library assistants and
4848 administrative staff are Elizabeth Bellisario, Donald Brower,
4949 Michelle Martinez, Kelvin Mote, Kali Palmer, Julia Walden, Jay
5050 Young, and Fernanda Zamora, and the library's clipping service
5151 staff members are Vincent Cowan, Christopher Taylor, David Wood,
5252 and Karen Wright; and
5353 WHEREAS, These hardworking professionals demonstrate a
5454 commitment to excellence as they perform their duties with skill
5555 and dedication, and they may take justifiable pride in the
5656 important services they provide to the legislature and to the
5757 citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
5858 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
5959 Legislature, hereby honor the Legislative Reference Library and
6060 extend to the staff members sincere appreciation for their
6161 outstanding contributions; and, be it further
6262 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
6363 prepared for the library as an expression of high regard from the
6464 Texas Senate.
