| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, retired Command |

| 3 | 3 | | Sergeant Major Dr. Evelyn Hollis served her country with great |

| 4 | 4 | | distinction as a member of the U.S. Army, and the observance of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Women Veterans Day 2023 provides a fitting opportunity to pay |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | tribute to her outstanding military career; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Hollis joined the U.S. Army in 1979 as an |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | administrative assistant, and she went on to become the first |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | African American woman in army history to serve as a command |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | sergeant major for a combat arms unit; her overseas assignments |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | included tours in Germany and operational deployments to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Southwest Asia and Iraq; she has worked as a military analyst for |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Air Defense Artillery School and as a senior technical |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | trainer for the Command Post of the Future; currently, she |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | teaches at Park University and serves as an honorary sergeant |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | major with the 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran has received numerous |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | honors, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | various foreign and service awards, and she was inducted into the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | U.S. Army Women's Foundation Hall of Fame; she holds a master's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | degree in human resource development and management as well as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | doctorate in management; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Evelyn Hollis upheld |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Dr. Evelyn Hollis for her military service on the occasion of |

| 30 | 30 | | Women Veterans Day 2023 and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
