11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 727
22 WHEREAS, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Marta E. Artiga served
33 her country with great distinction as a member of the U.S. Army, and
44 the observance of Women Veterans Day 2023 provides a fitting
55 opportunity to pay tribute to her outstanding military career; and
66 WHEREAS, A native of El Salvador, Marta Artiga joined the
77 U.S. Army in 1989 and graduated from basic training at Fort Dix,
88 New Jersey; she completed her initial enlistment in 1992, the
99 same year that she became a U.S. citizen, and she went on to join
1010 the Reserve and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army
1111 Nurse Corps in 1999; she embarked on her military nursing career
1212 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, and
1313 through the years, she held such titles as clinical nurse, chief
1414 of ambulatory nursing, and chief of the education support branch;
1515 she retired from active duty in 2021, having served in the
1616 Persian Gulf War, as an officer in Iraq, and in a variety of other
1717 posts around the globe; and
1818 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Artiga holds a medical
1919 sciences degree from the Federal University of Alagoas in Brazil,
2020 a nursing degree from California State University, Los Angeles,
2121 and a medical-surgery nursing certification from the American
2222 Nurses Credentialing Center; her military education includes her
2323 graduation from Command and General Staff College; she was
2424 recognized with numerous commendations, including four Army
2525 Achievement Medals, seven Army Commendation Medals, the Global
2626 War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Humanitarian
2727 Service Medal; today, she continues to benefit others as a Red
2828 Cross volunteer for Soldier and Family Readiness Groups; and
2929 WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Marta Artiga upheld
3030 the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating
3131 exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow
3232 citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3434 Legislature, hereby commend U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.)
3535 Marta E. Artiga for her military service on the occasion of Women
3636 Veterans Day 2023 and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
3737 future; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3939 prepared for Lieutenant Colonel Artiga as an expression of high
4040 regard from the Texas Senate.
