5	5	WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
6	6	generosity of Gloria Morris Ashford of Dallas, who passed away on
7	7	March 25, 2023, at the age of 92; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The daughter of Samuel and Evelyn Morris, Gloria
9	9	Ashford was born on October 11, 1930, in Los Angeles and grew up
10	10	sharing in the companionship of a sister, Eleanor; raised in
11	11	Annapolis, Maryland, she graduated from the Anne Arundel County
12	12	Public School System and went on to earn a degree in nursing;
13	13	devoted to helping others, she enjoyed a rewarding career as a
14	14	nurse and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in
15	15	Dallas after more than 20 years of dedicated service; she was
16	16	also a loyal and committed union representative; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Valuing family above all else, Mrs. Ashford
18	18	raised four children, Willis, Royce, Zina, and Morris, the latter
19	19	of whom preceded her in death; with the passing years, she had the
20	20	privilege of seeing her family grow to include 15 grandchildren,
21	21	12 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Admired for her warm and caring nature and radiant
23	23	smile, Gloria Ashford brightened the world for all who knew her,
24	24	and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now,
25	25	therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
27	27	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Gloria Morris
28	28	Ashford and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her
29	29	family: to her children, Willis Kevin West, State Senator Royce
30	30	Barry West, and Zina Yvetté Ashford; to her grandchildren,
31	31	Shaniqua, Sammiel, Stephond, Rolando, Roddrick, and Brandon
32	32	West, Brett Manning, Tara West Franklin, Royce Barry West II,
33	33	Sessalli, Simone, and Siara Obasuyi, and Fatai Obasuyi II; to her
34	34	great-grandchildren, Autavia, Natashia, Ryan, Riley, Rose,
35	35	Roman, and Remington West, T'ria Hurd, Stephond West II, Tiara
36	36	Franklin, Royce West III, and Brett Manning Jr.; to her
37	37	great-great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kimora, Kameron, Giovanni,
38	38	Gianna, Genesis, Nehemiah, and Ni'Ari; and to her other relatives
39	39	and friends; and, be it further
40	40	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
41	41	prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
42	42	this day, it do so in memory of Gloria Ashford.
