5	5	WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with
6	6	the passing of Flora Loretta Solomon Reves on March 14, 2023,
7	7	at the age of 89; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The daughter of James Elmer Solomon and Ellar Alda
9	9	Bertha Harbison Solomon, the former Loretta Solomon was born in
10	10	Chattanooga, Tennessee, on March 11, 1934; she grew up with a
11	11	brother, James, and a sister, Judy; after graduating from Graham
12	12	High School, she went on to earn both her bachelor's degree and
13	13	master's degree in education from the University of North Texas;
14	14	over the course of a career that spanned nearly four decades, she
15	15	taught English, literature, and journalism to elementary, high
16	16	school, and college students; and
17	17	WHEREAS, In 1965, she exchanged the vows of matrimony with
18	18	Orlandis Prentes "Patrick" Reves, and the couple enjoyed traveling
19	19	the world together; Mrs. Reves taught English and delivered Gideon
20	20	Bibles in China, studied art in Rome, and walked the halls of the
21	21	University of Cambridge in England; among other adventures, she was
22	22	chased by monkeys in India and mistakenly deported from Brazil to
23	23	Argentina; she and her husband shared a fulfilling relationship of
24	24	30 years until his passing; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Mrs. Reves was the devoted mother of two sons,
26	26	Brian and James, and through the years, she knew the joy of
27	27	welcoming three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren into her
28	28	treasured family; she was a woman of strong faith and a longtime
29	29	member of Sar Shalom/Prince of Peace, a Messianic Jewish
30	30	congregation in Arlington; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Although Loretta Reves will be deeply missed, she
32	32	has left her loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will
33	33	forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
34	34	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
35	35	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Flora Loretta
36	36	Solomon Reves and extend sincere condolences to the members of her
37	37	family: to her sons, Judge James Wade Birdwell and his wife,
38	38	Elizabeth, and State Senator Brian Douglas Birdwell and his wife,
39	39	Mel; to her grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexandra and her husband,
40	40	Zachary, and Matthew and his wife, Ann Marie; to her
41	41	great-grandchildren, Elijah and Lily; to her sister, Judy Solomon
42	42	Brown; to her niece, Deborah Vasterling, and her son, Jonathan; and
43	43	to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
44	44	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
45	45	prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
46	46	this day, it do so in memory of Loretta Reves.
