| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Kaufman County are gathering in |

| 7 | 7 | | Austin on February 6, 2023, to celebrate Kaufman County Day at the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated in the fertile blackland prairie of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Northeast Texas, Kaufman County was home to Cherokee and Caddo |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Indians when settlers arrived in 1840 and established a community |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | that became known as Kingsboro; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1848, Kaufman County was carved out of Henderson |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | County and named in honor of David Spangler Kaufman, a member of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Texas Legislature and the United States Congress; three years |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | later, the settlement of Kingsboro became the county seat and took |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the new name of Kaufman; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Among the area's notable historic sites is the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Kaufman County Poor Farm, which was established in 1883 to provide |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | housing to indigent residents; other landmarks include the Porter |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Farm near Terrell, the Spellman Museum of Forney History, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park and Vietnam Memorial Wall, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Terrell Heritage Museum, and the No. 1 British Flying Training |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | School Museum in Terrell; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Treasuring their rich heritage as they look forward |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to a bright and promising future, the citizens of Kaufman County may |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | take great pride in the role their communities continue to play in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | hereby recognize February 6, 2023, as Kaufman County Day at the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best |

| 32 | 32 | | wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin. |
