SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 87
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program, which is
holding its Middle School Youth and Government conference at the
State Capitol on January 28, 2023, and which will hold its High
School Youth and Government conference at the Capitol on March 3
and 4, 2023; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program was
established in 1946 as a part of the YMCA's nationwide program
aimed to heighten the political awareness of the nation's youth
and instill in them the value of social action; the Texas program
has since taught countless young people the value of democratic
government as well as its practical application in public policy,
and the program has helped to shape responsible and engaged young
citizens and future leaders; and
WHEREAS, Active in approximately 40 states with nearly
25,000 participants nationwide, the YMCA Youth and Government
Program teaches students that an understanding of democracy is
not automatically inherited and comprehended, but rather, that
it is a process that must be learned and practiced by the citizens
of each generation; and
WHEREAS, Transformative and educational, the YMCA Texas
Youth and Government Program has inspired young people to become
virtuous and responsible citizens who take pride in their state
and their country, who give back to their communities, and who
influence future generations to seek the greater good; the
program and its participants are truly deserving of recognition
for their commitment to upholding democracy and for their
contributions to the bright future of our state and nation; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, hereby recognize the members of the YMCA Texas Youth
and Government Program and extend to them best wishes for success
at their middle school and high school conferences at the State
Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the program as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
