55 SENATE RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
77 recognize the YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program, which is
88 holding its Middle School Youth and Government conference at the
99 State Capitol on January 28, 2023, and which will hold its High
1010 School Youth and Government conference at the Capitol on March 3
1111 and 4, 2023; and
1212 WHEREAS, The YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program was
1313 established in 1946 as a part of the YMCA's nationwide program
1414 aimed to heighten the political awareness of the nation's youth
1515 and instill in them the value of social action; the Texas program
1616 has since taught countless young people the value of democratic
1717 government as well as its practical application in public policy,
1818 and the program has helped to shape responsible and engaged young
1919 citizens and future leaders; and
2020 WHEREAS, Active in approximately 40 states with nearly
2121 25,000 participants nationwide, the YMCA Youth and Government
2222 Program teaches students that an understanding of democracy is
2323 not automatically inherited and comprehended, but rather, that
2424 it is a process that must be learned and practiced by the citizens
2525 of each generation; and
2626 WHEREAS, Transformative and educational, the YMCA Texas
2727 Youth and Government Program has inspired young people to become
2828 virtuous and responsible citizens who take pride in their state
2929 and their country, who give back to their communities, and who
3030 influence future generations to seek the greater good; the
3131 program and its participants are truly deserving of recognition
3232 for their commitment to upholding democracy and for their
3333 contributions to the bright future of our state and nation; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3636 Legislature, hereby recognize the members of the YMCA Texas Youth
3737 and Government Program and extend to them best wishes for success
3838 at their middle school and high school conferences at the State
3939 Capitol; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 the program as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
