| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | recognize the YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program, which is |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | holding its Middle School Youth and Government conference at the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | State Capitol on January 28, 2023, and which will hold its High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School Youth and Government conference at the Capitol on March 3 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and 4, 2023; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | established in 1946 as a part of the YMCA's nationwide program |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | aimed to heighten the political awareness of the nation's youth |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and instill in them the value of social action; the Texas program |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | has since taught countless young people the value of democratic |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | government as well as its practical application in public policy, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and the program has helped to shape responsible and engaged young |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | citizens and future leaders; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Active in approximately 40 states with nearly |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 25,000 participants nationwide, the YMCA Youth and Government |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Program teaches students that an understanding of democracy is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | not automatically inherited and comprehended, but rather, that |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | it is a process that must be learned and practiced by the citizens |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of each generation; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Transformative and educational, the YMCA Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Youth and Government Program has inspired young people to become |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | virtuous and responsible citizens who take pride in their state |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and their country, who give back to their communities, and who |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | influence future generations to seek the greater good; the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | program and its participants are truly deserving of recognition |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | for their commitment to upholding democracy and for their |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | contributions to the bright future of our state and nation; now, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the members of the YMCA Texas Youth |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and Government Program and extend to them best wishes for success |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | at their middle school and high school conferences at the State |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | the program as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
