55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Margie Salazar has been named the new chief
77 executive officer of FirstLight Federal Credit Union in El Paso,
88 becoming the first woman to lead that institution in its 67-year
99 history; and
1010 WHEREAS, Ms. Salazar first joined FirstLight, El Paso's
1111 second-largest credit union, as a teller, and over the course of her
1212 25-year career, she has distinguished herself in the roles of vice
1313 president of retail operations, vice president of lending,
1414 executive vice president of operations, and chief retail officer;
1515 she held the title of chief financial officer at the time she was
1616 tapped to serve as the credit union's CEO; when she takes on her new
1717 position on February 1, 2023, she will oversee the operations of a
1818 credit union with approximately 300 employees, 109,000 members, and
1919 $1.5 billion in assets; and
2020 WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan earned her bachelor's degree in
2121 marketing and management from The University of Texas at El Paso; in
2222 addition to her work at FirstLight, she has given back to the El
2323 Paso community through her service as board chair of the local YMCA
2424 and as a member of the advisory council of UTEP's Banking Academy;
2525 and
2626 WHEREAS, Margie Salazar's proven record of leadership makes
2727 her a truly fitting choice to guide FirstLight Federal Credit Union
2828 into the future, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her many
2929 accomplishments as she takes on the challenges and opportunities of
3030 her new position; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3232 hereby congratulate Margie Salazar on her appointment as CEO of
3333 FirstLight Federal Credit Union and that she be extended sincere
3434 best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for Ms. Salazar as an expression of high regard by the
3737 Texas Senate.
