| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ramon Benavides Jr. of the Ysleta Independent |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | School District has been named the 2022 State Teacher of the Year by |

| 8 | 8 | | the Council of Chief State School Officers and the 2022 Texas |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Administrators; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Each year, CCSSO celebrates State Teachers of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Year from U.S. states and their territories, the District of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | providing them with a yearlong professional learning program; the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | TASA Texas Teacher of the Year award is the highest honor that can |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | be bestowed upon an educator in the Lone Star State, and it |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | recognizes teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and excellence in the classroom; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ramon Benavides is the son of migrant farm |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | workers who went on to become South Texas educators; he recently |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | earned his Ph.D. in education leadership policy from Texas Tech |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | University, and he has taught for more than a decade at Ysleta ISD, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | where he is a biology instructor at Del Valle High School in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | El Paso; in addition, he is a grant writer for the district, and he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | has contributed to the Del Valle High campus community by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | overseeing a Science National Honor Society chapter and sponsoring |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | several school clubs; he is also an adjunct biology instructor at El |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Paso Community College, and he mentors high school, undergraduate, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and graduate students; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Dr. Benavides is a member of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the Ysleta Teachers Association and the National Education |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Association; moreover, he is actively involved with a number of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | community organizations; he holds a biology degree from The |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | University of Texas at San Antonio, a chemistry degree from The |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | University of Texas at Brownsville, and a master of arts in teaching |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | science degree from The University of Texas at El Paso; in all his |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Dr. Alyssa |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Cervantes Benavides, and his son; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, A strong advocate for equity in public education, |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Ramon Benavides is committed to providing opportunities for Texas |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | students, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his receipt of |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | these prestigious accolades; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | hereby congratulate Dr. Ramon Benavides Jr. on being honored as |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | both the 2022 State Teacher of the Year by the Council of Chief |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | State School Officers and the 2022 Texas Teacher of the Year by the |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | Texas Association of School Administrators and extend to him |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
