| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Andrews County are gathering in |

| 7 | 7 | | Austin on January 25, 2023, to celebrate Andrews County Day at the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the high plains of the Permian Basin, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Andrews County was established in 1876 and formally organized in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1910 with Andrews as its county seat; both the city and county are |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | named for Richard Andrews, an early settler and soldier in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | revolutionary army and the first man to die in the Texas War for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Independence in 1835; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Andrews County has long been a leader in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | ranching industry in Texas, and with widespread use of windmills, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | it became an important source of cotton and sorghum; it experienced |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | an impressive oil boom during the 1940s and recently underwent the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | greatest period of growth and development in its history; it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | remains one of the state's leading producers of oil and gas; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, With unprecedented support from citizens, public |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | officials, and civic organizations in the area, Andrews County |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | hosts the most advanced secure facility for the disposal of Class A, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | B, and C low-level radioactive waste in the United States; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Andrews Independent School District is highly |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | regarded, and its students have earned top honors at numerous |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | University Interscholastic League academic competitions; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The people of Andrews County enjoy an abundance of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | recreational opportunities, including the Andrews County Golf |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Course and many exemplary area parks; the county also boasts the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | annual Wild, Wild West Fest, which celebrates the region's Western |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | heritage; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Honoring their history as they embrace the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | opportunities of the future, the citizens of Andrews County may |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | take great pride in the role their community has played in the story |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | hereby recognize January 25, 2023, as Andrews County Day at the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | wishes for an informative and enjoyable stay in Austin. |
