| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Citizens of Howard County are gathering in Austin on |

| 7 | 7 | | January 26, 2023, to celebrate Howard County Day at the State |

| 8 | 8 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the high plains of West Texas, between |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the Llano Estacado and the Edwards Plateau and at the crossroads of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Interstate 20 and the Ports-to-Plains designated Interstate 27, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Howard County is a center for oil and gas production, education, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | health care, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, and other |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | diverse industries; established in 1876, the county boasts a rich |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and expansive history, and today, the area is experiencing new and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | continuing development as citizens look ahead to the opportunities |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of the future; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike enjoy an array of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | recreational activities found in the trails and green spaces at Big |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Spring State Park, Comanche Trail Park, and Moss Lake, and they can |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | learn about Howard County's colorful past at the Heritage Museum, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Hangar 25 Air Museum, and the renovated Historic Big Spring; in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | addition, the county hosts a number of annual events, such as the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Comanche Trail Festival of Lights, which has earned Big Spring |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | designation as the Lighted Poinsettia Capital of Texas; area |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | residents also benefit from the educational opportunities provided |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | by Howard College and the SouthWest College for the Deaf; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to their communities and to the land |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | that has shaped them, the residents of Howard County may take |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | justifiable pride in their efforts to preserve the area's rich |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | heritage and to cultivate a robust quality of life; now, therefore, |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

| 34 | 34 | | hereby recognize January 26, 2023, as Howard County Day at the State |

| 35 | 35 | | Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best wishes |
